Rated 2 out of 5 by Not as good as the old type Have fitted a lot of the CT50+ pumps over a 12 year period. Never been called back so my favourite pump to fit. This was the first one of these I've fitted and 10 months later it has become intermittent. Solution not found yet but very unimpressed that I need to go back and repair/refit. 18 Jan 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent My old Salamander pump was at the end of its life. This is the newer version which was straight forward to fit (some modification of inlet pipework required due to inlets now being on the top rather than side). Operates more quietly than the old one - barely noticeable when the airing cupboard door is shut. One of the better priced pumps especially with the sale discount. Can't comment on reliability at this stage but if it lasts as long as the old one... 12 Jan 2016
Rated 3 out of 5 by It has issues, but does work Bought this CT50+ pump to replace the previous CT50 version I had which was 8 years old and had developed a leak in the impeller case. As others have commented, it can be reluctant to start, it claims to have the same pressure rating, but the "+" impeller case is smaller than the previous, so the initial flow rate when you open the mixer tap can be not enough to get it started. If you wiggle the flexible hose or lower the shower head it will flow. We have an EcoCamel shower head which further causes a reluctance to flow, but either placing your thumb over the air hole in the handle or turning the mixer tap off and on again gets it in full flow. Installation is straight forward, if you have the right parts. The pump comes with 4 pipe fittings intended for vertical pipes. My installation has horizontal pipework for which I could use one existing connection. Fortunately I had kept the fittings from the previous pump kit which had 2 vertical and 2 horizontal fittings in it, so I had part to connect it up. Shower pumps do fail, its just one of those facts of life, its when they leak that they are the most troublesome. I am now on the look out for a leak/water alarm as I have the new pump stood in a drip tray, and would like to know when the next leak happens before any damage is done. 9 Jan 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Shower pump Easy enough to fit. A 13amp plug is already fitted. Works fine so far , fitted to one shower. Would be nice to have an adjustable flow rate, but it's not a problem. Marked down on reliability as it has been used three times. 5 Jan 2016

Answer:
There are two types of shower pumps, regenerative and centrifugal. The main difference between the two is the way the water is forced around the pump in order to increase the pressure. With a regenerative pump the water is forced around a housing using a 'toothed' wheel called an impeller. The water then hits a water block which forces the water from the housing. Centrifugal pumps use a different impeller and centrifugal force.

Answer:
The CT50+ Xtra can only be used to pump a single shower not a whole house. The only product we have that can be fitted to the incoming mains is Homeboost, which can raise the flow up to 12 litres per minute.
