For those that don't know the difference, this is for splitting logs, not for cutting down trees.
The blade is deliberately blunt and the logs are split by the weight and speed of the head.
I recommend you use a cut section of tree trunk as the base for splitting your logs ideally with a knot in it to stop it from splitting too!
It does a great job highly recommended

A basic but decent maul. Works very well on freshly cut wood but not so effective on wood that's been lying around for a few weeks - it tends to bounce off because the blade is designed as a wedge rather than a sharp blade. I bought this because the "smart-splitter" I use for splitting wood wouldn't cope with some of the biggest/knottiest rounds. This maul coped pretty well. I also used a wood grenade, which I hit with the flat end of the maul. For only a few pounds extra, it's probably worth buying the set with the maul, hand-axe and grenade together...

Very strong... heavy and strong enough to split large tree trunk style cuttings, say 40cm across 30 cm deep. Bought only to cut wood (myself) and 100% perfect for that.
I'm not a Lumberjack but I'm ok now...!

this heavier 8 -lb splitter is good weight for logs, requires less effort . BUT the way the head is sealed to the fibre glass shaft is not quite so good, after a fair bit of use (about 6-12 months ) the head will come loose. Not so clever with 8-lb of solid steel flying through the air into my neighbours garden just missing his car!! cheaper ones from wicks are even worse. didn't last long at all.
