Okay, I'm fed up with reading reviews with people moaning about check valves not working after bouts of frost.
To state the Water Regulations:
If your existing outside tap does not have a double check valve incorporated or in the pipe feeding it, you must fit one if you attach a hose to the tap, or you must fit a check valve to the tap outlet. This rule comes in when you fit the hose, even if the tap has been there since 1960.
However, on a new install of an outside tap (which is to be, or could be, connected to a hose), the double check valve should be inside the building where it will not freeze.
If you are REPLACING an EXISTING outside tap you should either fit a double check valve inside the thermal envelope of the building on the pipe feeding the tap, or use an outside tap incorporating a double check valve, or fit a double check valve to the nozzle of the new tap.
IF YOU CHOOSE TO FIT THIS PEGLER TAP WHERE IT COULD BE SUBJECTED TO FREEZING CONDITIONS, IT MUST BE DRAINED DOWN BEFORE COLD WEATHER.
We simply can't blame Pegler if we abuse their taps. I would only ever fit this in a porch or similar, otherwise I'd use a separate double-check valve.

Solidly built (and good looking), as are their stopcocks. Far superior to the cheap rubbish usually found nowadays. Others have left poor reviews, but it seems that they are due to not draining the outside tap during winter.

These taps are really good quality. Can't seem to be able to buy these in a builders merchant any more. Great next day delivery, not worth travelling any distance.
