Rated 2 out of 5 by from Thin I bought this product as I was unable to get the brand of decking oil that I used on the top part of my decking area. The price I paid was similar for both products. In both cases I applied the oil with a roller on an extension handle, it worked well despite my initial fears that the roller might not penetrate the decking groves. it was very easy despite the fact that I used a very cheap roller. However when comparing the two products, I found was that the No Nonsense Oil was much thinner and therefore the coverage was not as good and some was lost down the spaces between the planks. I will not know for a while whether the oil is effective but after a couple of days I would say the finish and penetration of the other oil (Bird Brand) is much better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pristine Decking The NO NONSENSE decking oil has given my new decking an outstanding sheen and was so easy to apply, and it was a really good price like all the products from SCREWFIX, first class

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to apply and looks good I found the decking oil easy to apply using a 4 inch brush. I used it on existing decking that I had first pressure washed and allowed to dry thoroughly. Claimed coverage is 6m²/Ltr but I used a whole 5 litre can on my 14m² deck and only had enough for one application. Maybe I was too generous with it. I have given it 4 stars for reliability as I can't say yet how reliable it has been as it is just over 48 hours since I applied it. I'm pleased with the end result and would buy the product again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Excellent product and appears to do everything it is supposed to do. Easy to apply and hopefully after the passage of time it will have protected the timber. My only observation is there is no instruction on the can about cleaning brushes etc after use. Admittedly it states it is an oil so one imagines it would be white spirit but it would be useful to have confirmation.

Tin states to be applied on a dry surface and takes 24hrs to dry. Once applied would it be affected by rain before 24hours is up

Asked by: pepper1
Hello pepper1, If it rains during the 24 hours it may take longer for the oil to dry or may need to be applied once again. The best advice would be to check the weather and if possible to do the job when it is dry. Thank you for using Q & A.

Can this be used on sawn sleeper ends?

If not what is best to use?
Asked by: jps10
Hi jps10, As far as we are aware, this should be suitable to treat the ends of sawn sleepers. They may require a number of coats if the wood is very porous. I hope this information is of help to you.

As they are not compatable, which one would you recomend for a newly laid softwood decking in the rather wet west coast of Scotland?

Asked by: jasmcp

In light of your answer to the difference between Decking oil and Sealer / Protector. Are they compatible for use together i.e. oil to prevent cracking, followed by a coat of sealer / preserver? If so what would be the recommended coating sequence.

How many coats of each and waiting times in between? Would a protracted wait be required before coating oil with sealer?
Asked by: jasmcp
Hello Jasmcp, The two items would not be compatible due to the "sealing" nature of both the products. Applying one would prevent the other from sealing correctly as they both have water resistant properties. Thank you for using Q&A.
