Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Finish Great to use. Great to finish, brushes wash clean even in cold water. Use synthetic bristle brush and finish is very even. Found flatting between coats gave better finish than sandpapering before first coat then between coats with wood I was using. 31 May 2016
Rated 1 out of 5 by The WORST finish I have used!! If you care about the item your finishing with this varnish, PLEASE READ THE BELOW. So I used the varnish on a wooden (kiln dried pine) bench I made. I choose it because I wanted an outdoor finish, which was hard and coated the wood not seeped in, ie not an oil. Im not new to finishing wood, but I check the instruction before applying and gave it a good stir beforehand. I applied a thin coat, with a brush and laid it off after. I was surprised at the lack of odour, but thought nothing of it at the time. I expected the varnish to dry over the next day or so. When I check it 2 days later, I was amazed that it wasn't just a bit tacky but still wet! I started to think about what I had done wrong, maybe the wood had reacted or something. But then I noticed that the brush I had used, was dry on the end I had cleaned but tacky on the handle I hadn't clean fully. I then looked at the side of the can, where some runs had been wiped down, they too were still wet. I contacted Screwfix, they gave me a number for the manufacturer, who were less helpful. In the end, i've left the wood to dry for about month, it's still tacky so i've had to remove the finished with a Stanley blade scraping it off. I even had to do the same with the work bench, where I rested the wood. In my opinion the issue was in the mix. This is a solvent based product, the lack of odour could mean something was missing or less than needed. Others have mentioned the same drying issues, so maybe it's a batch problem, some batches are fine other not. Regardless I certainly won't risk it again so i'm using another brand. 25 May 2016

Answer:
Hello Rowdyjon,

The manufacturer have confirmed that this would be safe to use, however even though it is quick dry you should allow it to fully cure for a couple of days.

Thank you for using Q&A.

Answer:
Yes, it's water-based. You can thin it with water if required and, if you use decent synthetic brushes, they'll clean up perfectly under a tap.
