Does the job
Used it to paint bare wood and it worked well. A little thin perhaps but covered well.

not bad stuff
used to use dulux primer when it was cheap- this is a really good, much better value alternative. I buy lots of this to prime mdf-always 3 tins at a time, and,for a trade primer, it really should be available in larger sizes. how thick or thin this primer is varies from tin to tin(even with a good stir).
I agree it is quite glossy for a primer

Not quite what it used to be
As another reviewer wrote, this isn't as good since the tins reduced to 750ml from 1L (probably due to a change of supplier). The old stuff used to cling like smelly stuff to a blanket, dry flat matt and be nice and 'chalky' to sand. The new primer doesn't cover well, has a strange odour a bit like naphtha and dries to a semi-gloss. When you try to nib or sand it, it tends to clog the paper quickly and it leaves drag marks.
All of that said, I've not found an alternative oil based primer that's any better and the water based ones are rubbish in comparison. Industrial solvent disposal regs certainly seem to have made it difficult to produce a good primer these days. C'est la vie.
