Rated 1 out of 5 by not up to date purchased to turn on table lamps at night for security at home. the safety instructions with the unit say do NOT use with energy saving bulbs. rang makers help line and they confirmed that this is correct that if used with these bulbs the unit will fail. returned for refund, design is out of date if modern lamps cannot be used. 19 Feb 2016
Rated 2 out of 5 by not for low energy lamps LEDS Bought this timer to control LED security lamp, read instructions, stated NOT to be used on low energy lamps, contacted Manufacturer who conformed that low energy lamps generally contain devices with too high inductance rating,if used on these devices ,it will lead to failure of this electronic timer, Screwfix have been notified, they are investigating and offered a refund, I will keep the timer as it has a useful security random switching program so will use it on an indoor table lamp. The warning should printed in the further info for this device 12 Feb 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Digital Timer Great product for the money, will probably replace my other mechanical ones in due course. 3 Feb 2016
Rated 3 out of 5 by Bit Tricky At First Unlike other reviewers I found this timer very tricky to set up ! There are many functions and the instructions could be presented more simply . The display icons are tiny and you will need your reading glasses and good light to see them . For me there were too many choices but this will be an advantage to some . That said you can just keep trying mostly using the 'up' and 'down' keys and 'set' key till you get the selected program of your choice . Tip The 'selection' of programmes identifying any or all the days in the week can only be done in Auto mode. Good luck 21 Jan 2016

Is it possible to use something like this to control the timing of a combi-boiler? Or is it unadvisable to turn combi-boilers off at the mains?

Hi, thank you for your product enquiry.
This timer is rated to switch loads of up to 10A (2,400W) resistive or 1A (240W) inductive.
If your fluorescent lights fall within these limits then the timer would be suitable, otherwise it would not.

Yes, each timer program, of which there are 10, can be set to activate on a single day or any combination of days up to all 7 in a week.

I am looking for a digital timer that is ON all the time, but can be set to turn OFF only say once a week for 5 minutes and then comes on again for the following week. I need it to re-boot my rooter once a week. Also would like to know if this item has replaceable batteries or if when the batteries go flat, does the time become useless?

Hi, thank you for your product enquiry.
The on-board backup battery is soldered into the circuit, so is not replaceable, but remains on trickle charge for the entire time that there is power available.
Each paired timer On and Off program can be set in 1 minute increments for any day/hour/minute of the week independently to each other, so yes you could set the on time to be 5 minutes after the off time on a single day (or around midnight so off is the first day and on is the subsequent day).
