Rated 4 out of 5 by from Value SDS+ Like all professional tools we expect a lot and some times even at a modest price you get what you wish for. It's no heavy hitter but for your average 6-7mm fixing it's perfect and even with a chisel bit it soon chips through most bricks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful, tough and versatile Bought around 12 months ago when last on offer. I buy on spec and ratings rather than brand so the Makita name made no difference to me - this was simply the best deal for the required spec at the time. It's coped with everything I've thrown at it: breaking out concrete post footings, stripping tiles and adhesive, chasing out around pipes in poured slab, fixing deep ground anchors, accurate drilling into masonry, piloting for landscaping pegs in cr@ppy clay/rubble in a new build garden and most recently, turning a mixing paddle in self levelling compound. While it's powerful and plenty torquey, it's also very lightweight and easy to handle in awkward positions, overhead etc. Nice long power lead too. Only real downsides are the cheesy side-handle and depth-stop which can slip if you don't tighten it really hard, and the stupid colour. Who honestly thought disco white was a good idea for an SDS drill?! Only given four stars for reliability as 12 months is too short to really assess this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product Great drill that has made light work of everything asked to do so far. The extra drill bits also make this better value for money.

Is this suitable for drilling 6mm holes in metal

Does it have enough speed for drilling small holes in metal
Asked by: Schnauzer25
The HR2470 can be used for this however, we would not recommend it

does this need a chuck key to tighten? I have bad hands so need to know

Asked by: Imagio
This comes with an SDS chuck which means it will auto lock the drill piece in place when you put it in, to release you will need to depress the chuck downwards
