I've used these in a couple of situations. One in which wooden framed temporary double glazing needed to be firmly fixed to a window but easily removable. The second, to fix mdf to a frame over a window that needs to be removed when required. In both situations the product performed well, just be careful to drill a hole quite a bit smaller than the screw thread, I made the mistake of drilling holes just under the thread dimension and have found that the screw end comes out whenever I undo the nut on the bold end - the wood is not gripping it tightly enough, although a spot of glue might solve this.
One reviewer has already pointed out that they thought that they were getting a dowel with a squared off section in the middle to allow it to be tightened. You don't, which could make this very difficult to screw into wood. But another reviewer has pointed out that all you need is a couple of nuts (I use a plain nut and the wingnut that I'm going to use to hold the board onto the frame), tighten the outward nut and you can get the screw end into the holding timber with no problems. Undo the nuts, by applying opposing force to each and they come off easily.
The reason that I am giving this a 4 overall is because I would have preferred a squared off, or even hexagonal, section in the middle, then I would only need a spanner! Adding a few more pence to the product to include this feature would still make it excellent value. Alternatively, grind your own squared section...
