Impax IM800I 700W Inverter Gen started second pull.very quite running,it was used to run PA system at fund raising event very pleased 29 Jul 2015
Great little generator Like many people I bought this to charge a battery bank which powers my inverter for a remote work unit. Start with the cons: This is not specific to this particular unit, but even though it's stated as 'silent' and 'low noise' by the marketing material, it's not silent by any stretch of imagination, unless you're half deaf. It's quieter when compared to the super cheap metal framed gennys, it still creates a racket especially when you're pulling 500w+ from it. It also kicks out a lot of stink, even when it's warmed up I can't seem to get it running with a closed choke - maybe it's still running in. So make sure to run it outside. Pros: It's tiny! It's light! It's very frugal - 2l of unleaded lasts about 4 hours on medium load. It's pretty easy to start once you prime it, open the vent, switch the fuel valve to ON and the engine switch to on. When it's to be used near people I suggest you build an enclosure like i did using scrap bits of plywood, sandwitching leftover rockwool, with a fan and exhaust and it's almost inaudible now, having a more pleasant 'rumble' than a moped sound. I'd definitely recommend it just check it's powerful enough for what you need! 19 Jul 2015

how noisy is it

You have stated a reading of 93 db. This is very loud. But this is meaningless as we do not know how the test was done compared to other competitive products. Usually the db meter is held at a certain distance from the machine to do the test. The further away it is the lower the reading, of course. Do you have further details, or is it possible to have a demonstration of the machine at one of your branches.

More information to add to my previous answer:-

I have since bought one of these generators and it does have a sticker on the generator saying something like '98 dB LBA' which I assume is some alternative way of indicating the volume. On the box itself however it does say '58db *' and later '* at 7m'.

Answer:
I wanted to know as well so I phoned Impax technical support yesterday. They didn't have the information to hand but they phoned me back today with the information that it is 58dB at 7m which seems pretty typical of other manufacturers 4 stroke 700w generators.

Answer:
The peak output of the IM800I is 780w. Continuous running is 700w. We would recommend a more powerful generator (IM1500I - Screwfix Product Code: 15761).
