Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Useful Connector Used these in a confined area where I had room to solder but not to bind with insulating tape. The connectors proved ideal (they're fairly small) giving a secure cable connection I couldn't separate. Note: the connectors come in differing sizes according to diameter/strands of cable in question and would be ideal for extending cables. Worked for me, I'd recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Awesome design, got to keep a box handy at all times. Great for those short wires in boxes both at home & in caravan/ motorhome.better than chock blocks as screws don't come loose. Fast secure & reliable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome connectors These connectors are inexpensive, very quick and easy to use (time-saver) and permitted by Part P BS7671 electrical regs for use in inaccessible / hidden locations (which choc block are not). They are neat and tidy and use little space (less that a choc block). They don't come undone with 50Hz mains frequency vibration. I have used loads to extend cable and join cable behind switches etc. They work for most cable conductors, solid or stranded in domestic use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Inline connector Great and easy to use. I use these for speed more than anything now. Great for proce work not so great if paid by the hour. Use these loads now, inline and 2/3/4/6 way push ins

are these suitable for car electrics?

connecting wires for tail lights
Asked by: happychappy69
SpliceLine in-line wire connectors are designed and rated for use only with solid or semi-rigid conductors (course stranded wires with <7 strands). Most automotive cabling is flexible wires, i.e.; multi-strand / flex. SpliceLine connectors are not rated for use on flexible conductors so this will limit use on automotive applications.

Are these connectors maintainance free to the appropriate British standard?

Asked by: slacker
They whole subject of 'Maintenance Free' (MF) is broadly not well understood and can therefore be said to be a grey area. SpliceLine, like all other Push In style connectors, are not officially 'Maintenance Free'. SpliceLine and Push-In wire connectors for solid and stranded copper cables are widely perceived in the market as maintenance free, even when used in conjunction with or without a suitable enclosure. Although the connectors themselves are not maintenance free, they are certainly much easier to use / install and are definitely considered to be safer than traditional methods of joining wires, ie; connector blocks with screw terminals. There are a small number of dedicated connector enclosures on the market which are rated as 'Maintenance Free'. Some are not designed for use with separate Push-In connectors as they have pre-fixed terminals already inside the enclosure itself. To use Push-In connectors to qualify as maintenance free, they must be used in conjunction with a suitable 'maintenance free' enclosure. IDEAL is currently working on developing such an enclosure to offer a truly 'Maintenance Free' solution. We hope this answers your question and is helpful.

Can I use these connectors with your alarm cable 26551

Asked by: P5PTV
Hi, the SpliceLine in-line connector is not suitable for fine stranded (flex) wires. SpliceLine is designed for use with solid wires from 0.5mm2 to 2.5mm2 and course stranded wires from 1.00mm2 to 2.5mm2. If you require a connector for use with fine stranded wires we suggest the IDEAL Lever wire connectors (search for 3526G, 4198G, 6502G or 6472G)

Do these have to be enclosed in a junction box, if extending wires in a consumer unit

Asked by: Scol1970
Our understanding of the current regs is that the consumer unit itself acts as the enclosure. However, if space permits, for a 'belts & braces' solution, using an enclosure would provide extra protection and safety.
