Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not Impressed: Multiple Flaws The following findings are a result of purchasing 2 packs, lots of trial and error, dozens of flushes and research: --- - Fill Valve Not Suitable for Low Pressure - I have about 3 meters of head on my gravity fed system, yet this fill valve doesn’t work correctly with my pressure (about 0.25 to 0.3 bar). Instead of it filling up from the bottom, quietly, it comes out the holes at the top, and dribbles and drips down the sides. I spoke to Fluidmaster and they said it should work for anything above 0.2 bar. I’ve not seen any mention of this online, only that it "works with low pressure systems”. Replicated with both valves, also tried flushing them for debris as per instructions. --- - Lever spring often triggers half flush instead of full - Pushing down on the lever is meant to give you a full flush, and pushing up on it a half flush. However, due to the spring within the lever, which is there to return the lever to the central position, it’s easy to end up getting a half flush even when pushing the lever down. As often the lever will spring back up, go past the central position for millisecond and trigger a half flush. You have to make a conscious effort to keep your finger on the lever and gently raise it back to the central point. But due to the lever being small, slippery and requiring little effort, it’s easy for your finger to slip off it once you’ve pushed it down, causing it to spring up and trigger a half flush. Tested with 2 levers. Can only hope the spring weakens with use, resulting in the happening less often. --- - Uncomfortable lever - While the front of the lever is styled and rounded, the back of the lever is flat and hollow, presumably designed this way as you’ll never see the back in normal use. The issue with this, however, is that the top part of the lever, the bit you press down on with your finger, has a rounded front edge, but a really sharp, pointy back edge. This means it’s much more uncomfortable to press than a normal lever, which further emphasises the cheap feeling of it. It’s a shame that the only user facing part of this kit hasn’t been better designed. --- - Easy to accidentally loosen lever - If your cistern has a small lever hole, then the instructions advise removing the rubber grommet from the outside of the level assembly. However this means that there is nothing to add friction between the lever and the outside of the cistern, so If a user pushes the lever past the point where resistance is felt, which can easily be done accidentally, then this loosens the attachment of the lever to the cistern, and also causes the rest point of the lever to change. Requiring manual fixing. A better nut locking mechanism could have been used to avoid this, or even a standard rubber washer to be used instead of the grommet, so that friction is still provided. I have modified the provided grommet, that you are told to discard, slicing the top off, so that it is now more of a washer, and this seems to help avoid this happening. --- - Flapper makes loud clunk - The flush flapper makes an incredibly loud clunk when it drops down to stop the flush, especially when using the half flush. It’s so strong, I’m sure I can feel it through the floor! --- - Positives? - Found it easy to install. Great that the flush body can really easily be removed without taking cistern off wall. Being able to adjust both flush sizes is nice. The fill valve is probably perfect for those with mains pressure.

Does the valve ever need servicing like syphon ones do?

Asked by: JamesIan
The Fluidmaster Flush Valve may need occasional checks to the flush seal - over time and especially in areas of hard-water, there may be a build-up on the seal. The seal can easily be accessed, removed, cleaned and fixed back into place.
