Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sealant Seems to have stuck well but I found that when I was applying it it went off quite quickly and started to grab and ball up when I was smoothing it off. A drop of water seemed to sort it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not bargain basement Years ago we used to use a clear version of this to hold all glass aquariums together, it was good then and I have had excellent results using it in a new bathroom this time around. As I say it's not a bargain basement sealant but it is well worth the extra couple of pounds in my opinion .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality! I have used this sealant for a few years now and it is excellent. Resists mould and is easy to smooth with a wet finger or sealant tool.

Is this suitable for sealing around Lino in bathroom?

Asked by: Crazymum1
Dow Corning 785+ is an acetoxy silicone and as such the adhesion to Lino may be limited. For better adhesion, I suggest using Dow Corning 791. Although not a sanitary sealant, DC 791 is neutral cure and can be expected to have better adhesion to Lino.

Is this product easy to finish?

Asked by: CarpetMan47
For a silicone, Dow Corning 785+ is considered to have very good gunnability and toolability properties. However, all silicones do require a degree of skill to apply. Using masking tape can help reduce mess. Try not to apply too much silicone and tool immediately with a dilute soap solution or methylated spirits. Technologies such as water based acrylics are considered to be easier to tool and clean than silicone, however, they lack the water resistance and flexibility which can be achieved with the Dow Corning construction silicones.

Is this silicon paintable?

Asked by: aleds82
Dow Corning 785 is a silicone and as such it will not accept a paint coating. It is difficult to give advice without knowing more about the application, however, for low movement joint you could possibly use Geocel Painters Mate. Painters Mate is a water based acrylic with excellent paint compatibility. However, whilst Painters Mate is among the most flexible acrylic sealants on the market, it does not have the same degree of flexibility as good quality silicone and MS Polymer sealants. For higher movement joints I would suggest using Geocel theWorks Sealant and Adhesive. This is a flexible MS Polymer product, however, in order to paint it, you should use a water based paint.

How long is Fast Curing?

I have applied to my shower tray, Great stuff to use! but it dosent give a time scale on when it is safe to use, just says 'Fast Curing' Been 24 hrs now, seems dry but do not want to mess up all my hard work
Asked by: BriggMacca
Cure rates of all one part sealants are dependent on environmental conditions. Dow corning 785 is usually tack free within the hour, however, it will take longer to cure through. You can usually use your shower or bath before the silicone has cured all the way through, however, this can risk damaging your silicone as it would be more vulnerable to movement, water pressure and being knocked. In normal conditions I would recommend leaving the silicone to cure at least over night before use and a 24 hour cure period is preferable.

Is this silicone product food safe?

I'd like to use it as a sealant on a few food jar lids we have. I'd like to know if it is food safe, or if I need to purchase a specific food safe silicone.
Asked by: oterwill
No, as it contains a fungicide. Here's what the datasheet says: "Dow Corning 785 Silicone Sealant is not suitable for areas where food contact is likely. "
