Rated 5 out of 5 by ready mix mortar I needed this to fill some large holes in a wall I had knocked through. Really easy to mix and work with and quite a smooth finish to plaster over. Nice to mix in the bucket as well. 29 Dec 2015

Answer:
Thank you for your enquiry relating to our product Cementone General Purpose Mortar.
We would recommend you wait at least 2 days before over painting this product.
The surface needs to be dry and we would recommend the use of a water based paint that is water permeable. If you use a different type of paint you need to ensure the mortar is completely dry not just surface dry and this will take a lot longer and will depend on ambient conditions and thickness of the mortar.
We suggest you speak with the paint manufacturer concerning the use of a suitable primer.
I hope this information helps.

I used one tub of this product.

I used half of it but found the mix to be too dry (100ml water : 1kg mix) so I increased the water ratio to 150m: 1kg and this was easier to manage.

However, upon drying 48 hours later, the section that had 100ml mix has come up as a 60% grey* than the section with 150ml mix which is more like 25% grey*

* 0% = white, 100% = black

I am looking for a product that will end up being very dark grey when dried. Can I do so by adding something to this product or do you offer an alternative product that will give me dark grey mortar?

Answer:
Good morning.
With grey mortar or grout, adding extra water will always produce a lighter colour. For this reason, the powder and water must be measured accurately when mixing part of a pack. You could add a standard black pigment for cement mixes to this material, but you would have to experiment to determine the level of pigment required to achieve your desired colour. You may need to use accurate kitchen scales to ensure consistent amounts of pigment are used.

I am planning to use this to grout patio tiles.

I want to use a pointing gun:
http://www.screwfix.com/p/roughneck-brick-mortar-gun/67965

All the reviews say to use plasticiser in the mortar when using the pointing gun.

So should I add some plasticiser to this mortar and if so how much?

Answer:
The use of a Pointing Gun would require the mortar to be very fluid. There is a risk that by adding too much water and/or plasticiser the mix would be too fluid to set and perform correctly. Too much water could cause excessive shrinkage which in turn would cause the mortar to crack and be weak. For this reason we would suggest you look at alternative mortars within the Screwfix range.
