Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not IP66 rated with all plugs + A smart socket with all the blanks etc. required for fitting. But a couple of schoolboy design flaws. - The plastic latch will not survive long it is quite flimsy. - Because the faceplate has a switch the socket is slightly offset so the cable exit grommet does not line up with where the cable lies. The heavier flexible cables on some garden appliances will not bend enough in the space provided. Check the image. - A typical 3-pin plug for garden use (like my Karcher) has a slightly chunkier plug on a waterproof lead... So guess what? The cover will not latch closed over it so cannot be considered IP66 with all mains plugs.

What is required to seal the back of the unit

Once I knock out one of the 20mm holes on the rear/side of the unit for the twin and earth cable what do I need to seal the hole back up again around the cable?
Asked by: alittlebitstuck
Hi, thank you for your product enquiry. With this (weatherproof) BG 13A 1G Switch Socket there are 5x 20mm knockouts situated on the 4 sides (2 on one of the sides, 1 on each of the other three) which will accept standard 20mm glands and grommets, and around the rear drill-out position are two rings of moulding between which a bead of sealant can be run to allow for a complete seal with the mounting surface.

I plan to attach the socket to a 50mm x 50mm post. Are the the mounting holes close enough together to allow this?

Asked by: Postmaster
Hi, thank you for your product enquiry. The mounting holes pre-formed in the enclosure of this BG Nexus 13A 1G Switch Socket are 70mm apart centre-to-centre, so they will be well wide of your post unfortunately. Perhaps you could attach a mounting board to the post which will be wide enough for the holes in the box, but for aesthetics no wider than the 111mm which the box is at its widest point.

Cable Glands

I have a reinforced outdoor cable14 mm. Can you give me the maximum individual cable size and the overall cable size this will take please. I.E. Where the whole cable goes into the unit and also where the live/neutral/earth wires actually fit.
Asked by: Santatony
Hi, thank you for your product enquiry. The BG Storm range weatherproof enclosures come complete with 20mm knockouts pre-made, so maximum cable size will depend on the capacity of the 20mm gland which us being used. The terminals in the socket itself are capable of accepting 3x 2.5mm², 3x 4.0mm² or 2x 6.0mm² cables.

Can BY Nexus 1G switch socket be used in a bathroom ?

Asked by: 4444
Hi, thank you for your product enquiry. This weatherproof socket enclosure is rated at IP66 when closed, meaning that it will withstand pressurised jets of water from all directions, which should be more than adequate for a bathroom environment.
