I was given a used wooden compost bin system, 10 posts and 66 boards. All of these were dirty and I wanted to clean them up a bit, partly so that I can see exactly what state they are in but principally to expose the wood so I can apply a wood preservative before using it.
I was using an old B&D electric sander with a hoover attachment and that died maybe a third of the way through. I finished off the current batch with a cork sanding block and it was not much slower than using the machine. I looked here for new machines, saw this with the glowing reviews and bought one and some coarser (40 grit) better quality paper (Oakey Liberty Green).
I finished the job really easily. This is effective and comfortable to use. I'm not at all ambidextrous but I easily did quite a bit left handed, just to give my right arm a rest. It was quicker than the machine and a lot less awkward (no flex or hoover pipe).
I have marked this down on reliability as I have only used it for a this job and there is already a bit of play (3mm maybe) where the handle is joined to the plate.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by TamesideHandyman Nice and smooth
Only bought this the other day on the spur of the moment.
Had a job for a customer and thought I would see how it performed.
Well it did just that - it performed.
Put 4 starts for features as it isn't exactly packed with them :-)
Doesn't need to be though it is simple to use and does what it is intended to.
I put 4 for value as it is quite pricey especially as i have seen it cheaper elsewhere.
It takes the strain out of getting a smooth finish and keeps the finish even due to the the wide area.

Such a simple tool but saves a lot of time and worn out fingers and produces a great even result.

I bought this one rather than the other sanding blocks on the recommendation of the other reviews. It's excellent and I wish I'd bought it years ago.
