Rated 3 out of 5 by from You Might Have a Screw Loose.. A good value immersion heater, supplied with a decent sealing washer. Unfortunately, I had drained-down the system and installed the part before I realised that the Neutral screw was missing from the terminal. Perhaps I should have been more wary, because the box had obviously been opened and re-sealed a couple of times. Fortunately, a screw from the old heater fitted the terminal, but the alternative of removing and returning the part would have been a real pain.......

Answer: 
If the picture shows a third tube extending from the top cap, in addition to the two which form the loop enclosing the heater element, then you can be pretty sure it's a thermostat.
