Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dire down the Line... Used with Zinsser Shellac Primer-Sealer for a domestic bathroom. Started off with bear plaster, which had had more than ample time to dry. Looked lovely going on, but 8 months down it's started cracking and peeling all over the place. Possibly the combination, but the whole surface is very very brittle. I'm now going to have to strip the whole lot down manually and start again less than a year later - what a waste of time and money!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Impressed Needed to paint some previously dark varnished wooden doors. Sanded a prepped the doors - 5 coats and still could do with another to completely hide the under colour This paint is very thin and is prone to runs. Th only two positives are that it does not dry on the brush and its water based.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wouldn't use anything else This paint is great as a mould-resistant paint and as a general purpose, brilliant white, satin-finish paint. I have used this in both situations and would default to it every time. Produces a resilient and visually very pleasing satin finish and is very forgiving - no brush marks. Best finish achieved on a water-dampened surface (damp sponge is fine) - this helps to keep the paint mobile and stops the brush from getting clogged with drying paint (the paint does dry quickly which is another positive - but not on the brush!). A single coat looks good but two coats completes a great-looking job - and the second coat goes on even more easily than the first. Excellent value for money, the price might seem expensive at first but it is worth it for ease of use and quality of the finish. Left-over paint also lasts forever in the tin.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from *Professionals* Tread Carefull Remodelling and painting an existing bathroom, I turned up to the job with peeling paint and an inefficient extractor. After deciding that all should come off and start again, my go-to primer was Zinsser. Unsure of the finishing top coat, I firstly primed the whole room in B-I-N. Customer wanted mildew resistant / satin, so naturally went for Zinsser Perma White after reading some good reviews on here. Less of the boring story, more to the point; > Took 4 coats before I was satisfied (although claiming to be high-hiding (2 coats recommended) (baring in mind I had already primed!)) > Issues with flow, kinda like oil based, but wasnt. Wouldn't brush that well or you would run the risk of applying too thin (ghosting). Prone to dripping, very fine balance between too much and too thin. > Ghosting was a particular problem, hence the 4 coats. Bit of a mixed bag from me, only time will tell if it is infact mildew resistant "for up to 5yrs." I have used many high-end, professional paints, and although Zinsser is a fantastic brand, I'm not sure I'd use this again in a bathroom.

Can you cover varnished surfaces with this?

Asked by: BlackpoolDIY
Hi. Thank you for your recent enquiry. It would be advisable to apply a coat of Zinsser B-I-N (10130) to the varnished surfaces before applying the Perma-White. No sanding is required but you must ensure that the surface has been prepared sufficiently i.e., with hot soapy water then rinsed with fresh warm water to remove detergent and when dry a good wipe with methylated spirit. B-I-N can be applied with either a brush or roller at a coverage rate of approx. 10m²/L/coat. Once dried (minimum of 45 minutes) you can apply the Perma-White, 2 coats are recommended to providing a durable, cleanable, long lasting, non-yellowing finish. I hope this helps.

Can the Zinsser self-priming paint be applied to vinyl wall paper

Asked by: Anonymous
Hello, thank you for your enquiry. Unfortunately the Zinsser Self Priming Paint would not be suitable for application to vinyl wallpaper, it would not achieve a good enough key and could cause the edges of the paper to lift. We recommend a product designed specifically for application to wallpaper is sourced and checked that it can be applied to vinyl wallpaper. We trust this answers your question.

Is this suitable for painting internal pre primed (wooded) internal moulded doors and trims?

Asked by: smithappens
Hello, thank you for your enquiry. The Zinsser Self Priming Paint in Satin (13040) would be ideal for this application, it provides a tough, durable finish that does not yellow. For best performance two coats are recommended, allowing a minimum of 2 hours between coats. We trust this answers your question.
