Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Primer-Sealer 1Ltr
This stuff is a little pricey and I was slightly sceptical after handing over the cash for a very small tin, but it's the business. Have used it for 3 tricky jobs and it's been great for each.
1) Priming MDF. Usually really absorbent, but this stuff goes straight on
2) Painting over water damage/stainage on a ceiling. Completely blocked the stains, never to be seen again
3) Covering peeling paint on a wall. Painter didn't use a mist coat on an small area we had to re-plaster. Scraped and re-sanded, then primed with this stuff and it's good as new.
Always keep a tin in the shed now.

1 Solution for many of jobs
I have used this on plenty of jobs like covering water stains on plaster (not re-appeared were many other products have, priming new plaster (small areas as it would be costy to do a whole room) priming skirting boards. Applying to gloss paint and re-glossing, Stopping an antique mahogany wardrobe from bleeding then applying annie sloane paint on top. (Stain will run if not and smells vile for weeks) in all fairness I have only used a few other primers so can't really compare. Either way I'm more than happy with this so do not intend on using anything else.

First time I've used this particular make of Zinsser and I found it to be very good. I was painting kitchen tiles so this primer was a necessity for the paint to stick to the surface.

So far I have used this paint to:
cover grubby old contiplas cupboards before repainting them. It worked perfectly.
treat heavy water staining on a white ceiling. The staining was heavy and at first I thought the paint wasn't going to work because attempts with other products hadn't worked. I put on a second coat and the stain was hidden. No problem putting white emulsion on over it either.
I'm very well pleased with this versatile paint.
