Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wilco Gold 50 replacement Bought this as replacement for a Wico Gold 50 , this was a direct replacement and fitted without any pipe work alterations. The first thing I noticed is that it is very quite and little vibration. Also when you look at the display the amount of power it uses is significantly lower than the old model. It also features a easy wire connection to the pump which just plus directly into the pump. So far an excellent purchase and great value for money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Pump I purchased this pump, as I could hear a slight noise coming from my own Wilo Pump, fitted 18yrs ago. That was on 3/1/17, lo & behold, on 10/2/17 the old pump finally gave up, no shame in that. I have retired now, due to arthritis & couldn't get into the small cupboard it is mounted in, but my son, 26yr old, with no plumbing experience, fitted it, under my guidance. Just needed to shorten the wires, for a neat fit into the screw-less terminals & away it went. Won't even have to rewire that, next time round. All dead simple. Great to see the difference in power usage, 7watt on hot water only, & 29watt on hot water & heating, with setting at 1. I have always used Wilo Pumps, throughout my 35yr career & found them very reliable. If this one lasts as long as the last one.................nuff said. ;-) A wee tip: Smear a little silicone grease on the threads, before fitting. Makes replacement a doddle. PS: I have given Reliability 5 stars, but that is based on previous Wilo Pumps. Couldn't possibly give a reliability rating on this one, as it is so new, so make your own mind up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Superb pump Central heating tank started leaking so replaced that and all that goes with it,, re-started the heating and the old Grundfos pump showed its age creating a loud clattering noise.. Went to Screwfix online to order a replacement, but noticed the smaller and cheaper Wilo range and after checking out all the specs decided that it might be a good choice. Fitting was simple, exactly the same connectors as the Grundos. Powered it up and selected self-venting (very useful to have a display on a pump - you get valuable feedback as to what it is doing)... after this the pump ran virtually silently! A really pleasant surprise - I would recommend this to anyone needing to replace a CH pump.

How do I decide on using variable or fixed speed on this pump?

Asked by: Graham9999
If you have TRVs on all your radiators then use variable, if they are all manual then you can used fixed. You can still use fixed if only one or two TRVs. I am not a plumber but my understanding is the variable speed is to accommodate TRVs switching the radiators off whilst the central heating is still on - the speed is automatically reduced. With manual valves the radiators stay on until the room thermostat turns the heating off.
