Rated 1 out of 5 by Useless! I bought this paint after seeing lots of great reviews. However, having bought 2 tubs whilst on offer I have been left disappointed. It may be great going over a white undercoat on a newly plastered ceiling. But you try just repaint img an older ceiling with it. It reminds me of the paint I usually use that is pink in the tub and dries white. Only this paint is white in the tub and dries see through! It won't cover a darker colour. It won't cover fly poo on the ceiling. It won't cover general scuffs and marks. My daughter had got some pencil on a white wall. I painted it with 4 coats and still you could see the pencil through the paint!! I would not recommend this if you want a good solid white finish. Great if you want your walls to look just like they were before you started!!! 20 Jun 2016

Answer:
Hello Animatrix. Yes this will be fine to use on a ceiling. However I would avoid using it as a final coat for your walls, and it is not designed to be a durable product. Thanks

I'll be painting the hallway and looking for a thick texture paint to cover with one coat - i will be using a tough matt paint. Will it work? and how long to when i can repaint?

Would you recommend a certain roller?

Hello NikkiKD. The Leyland Trade Contract Matt is primarily for new work - as it is highly breathable. it is a high opacity emulsion, however it cannot be considered a one coat paint, 2 coats would be recommended for any system of decoration. Another issue is that the product isn't a durable product. Due to the nature of the paint it dries to a chalky texture meaning other coatings can struggle to adhere properly. it will also mark and scuff very easily. if you want to use this paint prior to applying something harder-wearing, I would suggest using a medium pile roller. once dry, thin your desired durable topcoat with 10% clean water. This will allow the paint to be drawn into the contract matt and therefore promote good adhesion for further over painting. Thanks

Please would you confirm if this paint is water based and capable of being used to create a whitewash mixture. If so, please would you confirm the ratio required for paint to water.

Thank you in advance.

Hello - This isn't really a floor coating but you will be able to create a Whitewash effect with it - I can't say how durable this will be but the thinner the coating the better. I would say you will need at least a half and half mix of paint and clean water. You can experiment first using measured amounts to get the exact appearance you want .Tip - the mixture will dry quickly so work in sections. To create durability if needed an Acrylic Varnish will give you that .Good luck!

If so, would it require any special preparation between coats?

Answer:
Hello Bungler. The Leyland Trade Contact Matt Emulsion is a breatheable product, so is ideal for new plaster. However this product has a very low vinyl content - this means that it is not a particularly durable paint, it will mark and scuff very easily. After applying the Contract matt you must continue to allow the plaster to fully dry. Once this is done I would recommend using the Leyland Trade Vinyl Matt emulsion. This product is considered as 'wipeable'. because of the powdery nature of Contract Matt I would suggest thinning the 1t coat of Vinyl Matt with up to 10% clean water, this will allow the paint to be drawn into the Contract Matt, as opposed to just sitting on top of it. If you are painting areas where more durability is required (for example a kitchen or bathroom) I would suggest the Leyland Trade Acrylic Eggshell - which is considered as being 'scrubbable'. Again just ensure you thin the 1st coat with up to 10% water. Thanks
