Rated 5 out of 5 by Why pay more Good quality, good covering (best i have ever tried i think) white emulsion. Much better than the rubbish available from other DIY stores for about the same price. but its not cheaper if you have to put 3 times as many coats on is it? 19 Aug 2016

Rated 2 out of 5 by Mixed feelings with this paint Very mixed feelings about this particular paint: . Pro's: * Great value for money. * Very thick paint, not weak or watery. * Nice bright white & stays white. * Coverage is good once dry, (goes on almost clear when wet). . Con's: * Leaves a very chalky finish. It's like filler when sanded. * No durability. At all. This paint will show up the slightest knock, scratch or bump and is very easily marked which leads to the final con... * Impossible to touch up. No matter how carefully I've tried or whether using brush or roller, when trying to cover said marks and scratches etc, it simply does not blend in to the original coat. It will show up every time as a little blotch, spoiling the finish. . In summary, once dry this paint looks really good on the wall and goes very far. If you have no little ones or is used in a room which is unlikely to take damage I would definitely recommend it for value. But you get what you pay for. There is just no durability and it marks and scratches so easily that I would probably consider using something else in future. 28 Jul 2016

Answer:
Hello banshee09. Contract paints are designed primarily for new plaster which has not yet fully dried - it is a highly breathable product so allows to plaster to continuously dry. I would suggest for your 1st coat to thin this down with up to 10% clean water. Once dry apply 2 full coats. However please note, because of the high levels of breathability this product is not durable, it will mark and scuff easily. As an alternate option you can wait until the plaster has fully dried, then thin the 1st coat down of your desired topcoat (for example the Leyland Trade Vinyl Matt which is known as being 'wipeable'). Thanks

Hello. the Leyland Trade Contract Matt is a highly breatheable product. primarily for new work, this could be used in an area such as a bathroom ceiling. However, due to the quick drying and absorbency of this paint, it is often difficult to achieve a uniform finish. I would suggest the use of a Vinyl Matt instead. Thanks

Hello Animatrix. Yes this will be fine to use on a ceiling. However I would avoid using it as a final coat for your walls, and it is not designed to be a durable product. Thanks

I'll be painting the hallway and looking for a thick texture paint to cover with one coat - i will be using a tough matt paint. Will it work? and how long to when i can repaint?

Would you recommend a certain roller?

Answer:
Hello NikkiKD. The Leyland Trade Contract Matt is primarily for new work - as it is highly breathable. it is a high opacity emulsion, however it cannot be considered a one coat paint, 2 coats would be recommended for any system of decoration. Another issue is that the product isn't a durable product. Due to the nature of the paint it dries to a chalky texture meaning other coatings can struggle to adhere properly. it will also mark and scuff very easily. if you want to use this paint prior to applying something harder-wearing, I would suggest using a medium pile roller. once dry, thin your desired durable topcoat with 10% clean water. This will allow the paint to be drawn into the contract matt and therefore promote good adhesion for further over painting. Thanks
