Rated 5 out of 5 by Great for a mist coat Got in a deal. But still a good price there after I would use this for a mist coat 21 May 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Awsome gear! I decided to give this stuff a go ages ago & found it gives a better/flatter finish than the more expensive competitor paints! It's good for large ceilings where light makes any defects show up. Very good gear & at an excellent price (even when not on offer!) 18 May 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by djmimprovements Very good value for money . Excellent coverage . Great on new plaster and one of the cheapest around . Would definately recommend and will be using again 17 May 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by It's white paint! It is white paint... Great coverage, even on fresh plaster. With just two coats, a brand new ceiling was gleaming. So cost effective it made a great base for walls too, dried very quickly and didn't peel off fresh plaster when masking tape was removed. 16 May 2016

Chalky finish

Hi

I have applied this as a mist coat accordingto the instructions 9 paint to 1 water.

I have ended up with a chalky finish.

I now wish to paint the ceiling with vinyl matt and the walls with acrylic paint.

My concern is that the chalkiness of the mist coat will mean the top layers will not adhere properly.

Advise on the internet suggests sanding down the entire mist coat - which seems a bit over the top. Or somply using a cloth to wipe down the chalkiness.

Will a top coat be OK straight over the top?

The palster skim is 2 months old and totally dry.

Answer:
Hello MrMo. You are correct in saying that contract will dry to a chalky finish. As you mentioned the chalkiness of contract paint can cause problems with adhesion with any subsequently applied topcoat. the process to get any topcoat to adhere properly is straightforward. I would give the surface a light sand and simply thin the 1st coat of your desired topcoat by 10% clean water. as contract paints are highly breathable, thinning the 1st coat of topcoat will allow the paint to be drawn into the contract paint and therefore provide a nice solid base ready for over decorating. once dry overcoat as required. Thanks
