Twice the price of the 'never heard of them' brands, but really worth paying for a reliable make. Buy cheap, buy twice - always a good motto...
It was buy this, or hire a sander pack to strip my hallway floor. For a small job it's perfect, for a medium job (like a floor - 8 sq metres in my case) it's good, but it will take longer than a drum sander (obviously). It removes everything, but bad sections require quite a few repetitions.
If you don't mind spending the time (6 hours to do three full passes with 40, 80 & 120 grit belts) without having to return the sander at the end of it, then this is a good buy.
I found the dust collection useless. It says to empty the cartridge every 5 minutes; mine was always virtually empty, and I spent three hours cleaning at the end of the job. That is the only downside, and the reason for giving 4 out of 5 stars.

Compact and well-put together, as you would expect from a Bosch tool. Belts are easy to change and - joy! - no need to faff around aligning them. Moves material in quantity with the coarse belt, but the bag is a little small so you do have to empty it rather frequently.
Good value for money, though the motor is a little puny for heavy work. Think twice about sanding your whole floor with it, for example.
Worst feature? The high pitched scream from the motor and drive means ear defenders are essential.

This worked brilliantly for the first 3 hours (and i was having breaks to let it cool down). After this the belt continually slipped meaning that it stopped sanding. There may be a way to tighten the belt, but there is nothing in the instructions or online on how to do it. Therefore if there isn't a way to tighten this, it's a complete waste of money. I'm only giving this as high a review as i am as i'm assuming there is a way to fix this.

Have used this beast to clean up old wooden furniture (now looks new - sander already paid for itself by not having to replace furniture!) and used it again to sand a floor. Effective on floor but no replacement for a floor sander. Only downside is the necessity to constantly empty the microfilter bin - every five minutes. Automatic belt alignment works - very cool. Machine weight is good and means that no real downforce needs to be applied, leaving all the effort for controlling the machine. Overall, the best sander I have used.
