Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty decent stuff, but... ... has some drawbacks...you don't ever want to let this paint harden in your brushes, at all, as even brush restorer and boiling water will not bring them back, ever...once it gets into the ferrule area you really will need to throughly wash it out afterwards or say goodbye to it there and then. Being water based it does dry a lot faster and in this case if you've got it out all day to do a few rooms you'll find you'll have to clean your brush out a few times over to keep it feeling good. Yes that happens with oil based too but nowhere near as fast as with this and thinners can usually help there anyway. It's got pretty decent opacity but I've still found some grinning after 2 good coats. The self priming aspect does the job as it should. I like it as a product overall, it does have its place out there and is my usual go to now unless a client specifies oil based. Touches up well too. I've always found Zinsser products reliable and although I can't personally vouch for this particular paint as I've not seen it after 5 years, I imagine it will hold up just fine

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Zinsser Paint Works I found out about this paint brand on an online forum. I never imagined I would happily pay this much for paint, but since my first use of this brand, it's my go-to brand for skirtings, architraves, and doors. You get what you pay for in the long term. No yellow doors or skirtings a few years down the line. No nasty black spots in the corners that are not just dust. Just an FYI before you jump in to buy this paint. Although the paint is touch dry in a few hours its not what I would call “Hard Dry” that takes a day or two. By that I mean, the paint feels dry and can be second coated but you could peal it of with your fingernail or a tool like a scrapper. Sanding would ruin the paint work and choke up the sandpaper. Do not get carpets fitted until at least 48 hours after the last coat was applied just to be safe. There are a range of Zinsser paints for all purposes on screwfix. They are a bit expensive but do what they say on the tin. I am a landlord, using Zinsser has made the difference between washing down paintwork to get a nice finish against repainting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Will solve your mould problem! Used to treat a mouldy bathroom ceiling. Three years later there is still no sign of mould returning. A genius product. For fellow amateurs here is what I did - I just wiped away the mould I could, sanded away the stubborn bits, wiped it clean, let it dry and then did two coats. Job done. I did the same a year ago around a mouldy window in a bedroom - perfect result again and no sign of return.

Can it be used on internal upvc window sill, after coating with zinner bullseye 123?

Asked by: Aly74
Hello Thank you for your recent enquiry. Perma-White is perfect as a decorative top coat for the project you are undertaking and this, with Bulls Eye 123 primer is a specification we often provide for just such an interior project. Two coats of Perma-White should be applied by brush or roller at a coverage rate of approximately 10m2/L/coat, with a re-coat time of 2 hours. I hope this helps.

Zinsser Permawhite - very runny?? I have just opened a new tin and it seems super thin & runny despite my stirring for ages. It just runs off brush like water. Can it be this runny?or have I a bad tin that needs returning? Previous tins not like this?

Asked by: elizawild
Hello Thank you for your recent enquiry. Matting agents may settle to the bottom of the can between manufacture and use and will need to have a thorough stir with a broad paddle stirrer, getting right to the bottom, to mix these into the paint. This should thicken the paint to the correct consistency, however if this doesn't resolve the matter for you, then you may wish to return the product to the shop for their assistance. I hope this helps.

Can this paint be applied via hvlp spraying

Asked by: Iannnnnnn123
Hello Thank you for your recent enquiry. Perma-White may be spray applied although we recommend this is by airless or conventional sprayer. If you were to use an HVLP sprayer the product would need to be thinned to a point where the properties of the paint may be altered affecting the performance of the paint. I hope this helps.

Mould growth on bathroom window

Would I need to treat mould growth first on wooden Velux in a bathroom before using this? I have some Zinnser BIN - should I use this after treating the mould ?
Asked by: jlmacd
Hello Thank you for your recent enquiry. Once the surface has been cleaned and degreased, we would recommend treating the mould with a fungicidal solution to kill any remaining spores. When the substrate is dry, with a moisture content of 12% or less, then BIN will be suitable to be applied and will block any staining while promoting great adhesion and key. One or two coats should be applied by brush or roller at a coverage rate of approximately 10m2/L/coat, with a re-coat time of 45 minutes. Once this has dried, Perma-White is the perfect product to apply as this is a durable, cleanable, non-yellowing paint which contains a biocide in the finished coating to help resist the re-growth of mould or mildew. Two coats of the paint should be applied in the same manner as the primer but with a re-coat time of 2 hours. As this is being applied in a humid area, we would recommend allowing as long as possible for the system to cure before introducing steam, but at least 24 hours. I hope this helps.

Tintable ?

Says in the description “ Tintable to Off-White & Medium Colours”. What type of product would you use to achieve this and in what proportion?
Asked by: jlmacd
Hello Thank you for your recent enquiry. Although Perma-White has a bright white colour, this may be tinted to off-white, pastel or medium colours with a maximum of 118 ml universal colourants per 5 litres. We recommend starting with 75% of the tinting formula for a given colour and adjust if necessary. I hope this helps.
