Rated 3 out of 5 by from A qualified recommendation I agree with other reviewers. The terminal block is difficult to access. I could not use multi-strand wire as the screws would not bite down. I had to use solid 1 sq. mm wire out to another terminal block instead. The conical shape of the base also makes the unit difficult to handle. I nearly dropped it several times. However, the PIR works well to bring on a porch light from an approach some distance away and the fine adjustments available are good. Cheaper PIRs I have tried either don’t work at all or only work partially. The important thing is, it works well once installed but only three stars overall.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dreadful Probably the worst piece of electrical equipment I have ever fitted. Teminals are pathetic and stuck in little slots. No way of installing while keeping the cables double insulated. Screws hardly good enough to hold cables securely . Certainly not fire rated or ip rated in any way. Screwfix should be embarrassed to stock such an item

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A bit flimsly but OK Seems I can't upload photos (I have several) bought this to replace a ZN25154 also from Zinc, also bought via Screwfix. The ZN25154 had became very "laggy" often I could go into garage, get the item I wanted and come out before the lights came on. Bought the ZN31786 . Replace old unit, , maximum lag is about 1 second (usually less) that said, pretty sure the old unit started like this. Replacement is pretty simple the old unit had 3 terminals N(neutral) L(Live) and A (Switched Live) the new unit has supply L & N and load L & N , but a ohm test shows the two neutral are common, so I only used the 3 wires. I guess this makes it simple to explain to layman ....power in L&N, power out L&N . The terminals are those annoying flimsy screws where the head always tears off and you can't tighten down enough. Honestly I wish they just provide bare wires and let me add a more robust terminal block. Didn't realise it was the same manufacturer as old unit, otherwise I'd not have bought. I suspect the lag will increase over time. The pattern is "odd" it's not that it takes say 30 seconds, sometime it was instant. It feels like the unit only checks every 30 seconds, so it MIGHT catch you straight away or you may need to wait for the next 30 second scan. The new unit does have a sensitivity" but the minimal documentation suggests this is a "distance setting" , still if iy starts to lag I can try tweaking this.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from not impressed Purchased this PIR for the garage Pros: Very simple to adjust the time and lux levels. But when hooked up works well.. Cons: design not properly thought out - the wiring fitment on the unit is to the side and can be seen concealment of cables is not really an option. Taking this into account I wouldn't recommend due to posable moisture ingress in a bathroom etc. So the PIR needs a better base.

Ambient light

At dusk does this unit power lights a a dimmer level than when triggered by movement?
Asked by: Anonymous
No, it powers the lights at the same level. It just switches the load on or off. It only switches the load on or off between dusk and dawn (when triggered by movement). The light is not switched on during daytime.
