Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice bit of kit I bought just an add-on socket by mistake too, but it can be flashed to a master (firmware is on GroupGear website). Works with an existing Powerline network but is fiddly to sync. (I ended up programming the Powerline key using a wired connection into one of the ethernet sockets and an app like the Devolo Cockpit powerline utility.). Now works very nicely.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad piece of kit Visually the plug sits 3cm from the wall so somewhat protrudes, which is't practical or visually pleasing. The plastic is cheap and flimsy so be careful not to screw it in to tightly or the buttons will get stuck. The only way to reset the unit was by turning the mains off as the reset buttons did not work. You configure the devices by a admin portal. This doesn't render or refresh properly. Even the logo hasn't been blended into the portal, so looks basic and has limited functionality. Very temperamental units would sometimes work and then just stop. I had the TV plugged into one unit and the TV would restart. The install instructions are useless. Basically run an IPConfig and see what subnet mask you're on, then config the device manually as the automatic setup does not work. There is no support for this device over the weekend so you'll have to call in the week. This may not be convenient for people who work! In theory this is a good idea. However, the product needs to be fully tested before going out to market. Don't waste you're money and more importantly you're time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great wifi device I purchased a starter and an additional add-on unit which I had problems getting fired into life. I contacted the technical people who were really exceptional in both their ability, attitude and helpfulness. I had thought I needed to connect the ethernet cable to the master socket to get the internet into the electrical network but not so. Also I gained confirmation that it works across ring mains and RCD's provided they are all on the same phase. Overall I have good wifi strength and can use the ethernet at suitable points around the house. Overall a great result and thanks to the tech support.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent You need the starter pack which has a master and add on socket before buying more add on sockets. I managed to set up the master as a wireless access point and the add on sockets as wireless repeaters, in addition to the core function of broadband, which does not need to be set up. You change settings by logging in to the master socket through a browser. I did need to phone the company for help, which was quickly provided. Once all the add ones are fitted you need to turn off all the sockets off and on at the consumer unit so they are recognised by the master socket. The sockets are big and most stand some way proud of the wall. They work quietly and (so far after a week or two) reliably.

How many of these units can exist on the same network?

We want to offer an IP Relay retro-fit cabled home automation system, is there a limit to how many of these units can exist on a network. FYI, some plugtop PowerLine units state limits of anything from 8 to 64 units. Thanks :-)
Asked by: MDARLtd
Hi, The maximum amount of units on a network is 8 units. Meaning you can have 1 Starter Kit (which includes 2 units, 1 x Master and 1 x Add-on) along with this you can have up to 6 Additional Units. Thanks.

Consumer unit

Elaborating on the question above about the house circuits for upstairs and down. My property has a three phase supply. Does this work across phases or only on outlets of the same phase?
Asked by: Djn1
Hi, Unfortunately the units do not work across phases. The units only connect to each other if they are situated on the same phase as each other. Thank you.

Does this use the HomePlug standard for powerline networking and if so which version?
