Rated 4 out of 5 by from Titan shredder Great bit of kit, easy to assemble, already eaten branches of 30ft tall conifer, still hungry for more, moving on to next. does need the hopper emptying often with the green foliage but a really useful bit of kit, would strongly recommend, fill up wheelie bin very quickly.
Date published: 2018-06-13
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very poor Clogs up easily then is very dificult to clear blockage.
Date published: 2018-06-08
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great but could be better Good build, handled everything l threw at this bad boy. Quiet and does all that spec promised. Manufacturers could maybe look at outlet fins again, performance improved once l halved them, stopped shredding backing up but don’t know if any reason not to.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bit of kit Excellent bit of kit but like everyone else says does get jammed on the outlet occasionally will be cutting the teeth out
Date published: 2018-06-04
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Yes but only if... Soft hedge clippings and woody clippings with branches (i.e. most of them) will only go through the hopper if you cut away most of the safety flaps that get in the way. Then you can make decent headway but at the cost of your warranty and arguably your fingers. I used safety goggles as a precaution after making this modification. I also made the anti clog mod mentioned everywhere of cutting away the plastic fins in the outlet. I use a "Really Useful Box" to collect the stuff.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Average The shredder is actually very good for the price. The problem is that you cant get replacement blades. I have used this 4 times so far and now need to replace the blades which is to be expected but I cannot purchase them anywhere so now my shredder is useless.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Titan Shredder Very robust and efficient especially for the price.
Date published: 2018-06-02
Rated 1 out of 5 by from waste of money wheels dont fit properly resulting in them continually falling off. could possibly cope with this if item was actually efficient. first use and only managed to shred half a dozen branches before item packed in. checked for blockages etc but all clear, tried reset button turned on and although started stopped after about a second. not fit for purpose!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from replacement blades unavailable Was great for about an hour then it stopped shredding. So I thought no problem, just replace the blades. Except screw fix don't stock them and contrary to what they say nor does anyone else in the UK. Returning as not fit for purpose.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little piece of kit Bought this for my husband as he went on a bender in the garden with his hedge trimmers and loppers. We were left with a massive pile of Bush and tree cuttings and would have had to hire a big van to take it all to the recycling centre. This worked a treat and was effortless. Best buy in a while. I would definitely recommend.
Date published: 2018-05-24
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Serious piece of kit Bought this to get rid of branches from 57 oversized conifers in the new garden, 1/3 of the way through and still going strong. Bit of safety modifications like the reviews say and it will turn serious 45mm branches into bags of fine chips all day.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Too good.... Feed up with chopping tree and bushes down and left with large debris of material that needed transporting to the dump etc. I decided to purchase this to aid maximizing and ease of disposal. I had a garden shredder many years ago and never used the thing - such a pain - kept jamming and then 30 minutes to unblock etc. I had recently purchased a Titan SDS drill and was so pleased with that quality I went for this shredder as it was so reasonably priced. Once home - easy to assemble - switched on and it ripped through the branches. I did have to unclog it twice but it was so easy - unscrew a panel - remove debris - screw back up - sorted! My only criticism is that it is too good! Normally, shredders don't like branches etc but this one (assuming you don't try shredding whole Oak trees etc) will take a fair size branch and it will eat it. My problem was the majority of my stuff was leaves and thin flexible twigs and trying to cram it all in just got caught hence the jams. But - for the bigger stuff it worked great - easy to assemble - easy to use - easy to unjam. Would give it more stars but I have only used it once so don't know about reliability etc.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for the price Had been thinking of buying this for awhile, but recent poor reviews nearly put me off. A promotion meant price was no different from a day's hire elsewhere, so thought I'd give it a go. Thought firstly would try and address some of the negative comments which I certainly didn't experience. You do have to assemble the legs carefully, so that the holes in the leg tube and socket in main assembly are correctly aligned especially as bolt will self-thread through holes. Allen key supplied is tiny though, best to use your own. Wheels are plastic shells, so not all terrain, you need to tap in the inserts up to the last thread to secure properly. Been using mainly for brambles so far, it eats as much old woody lengths as quickly as you can them get into it. First time tried new green leaved growths it did jam up as others have said. You can quickly unblock outlet with a trowel or screwdriver, not fingers!. As brand new did not want to chop the veins off - can't see what practical use they are for though. The solution was easy, just feed in slightly slower, watch outlet to see shredded material still coming out ok and try to shred when material is as dry as possible. No subsequent blockages. Can dispatch 2 complete long lengths of brambles together with all side growths in no time at all. It has a reasonable positive feed, the woodier the material the better. People talk about knocking noises, this will happen when the material is shorter than the gap between the blade and the inlet as it gets bounced around inside, use the supplied prodder to push into blade. Finally it is worth opening up the casing at the end of the day and giving it a clean out to stop any material left inside from hardening up. Only used a few times so can't comment on long term reliability

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Shoddy build quality Didn't even get to use it before returning for a refund. Allen bolts very shallow heads causing allen key to slip easily, plugs that hold the wheels on don't fit either. I know its budget but quality is extremely poor.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good shredder struggled to get the supporting legs in far enough to get the screws in, ended up using a rubber mallet, but once complete it just shredded all the branches i fed into it. struggles with green waste, tends to get stuck in the ejector. only had it 2 days so can't really comment on reliability.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from OK shredder Great value shredder but had a few issues with it today. I tried two main types of wood, one was a thick hardy bramble style wood. It made easy work of most of it but bits kept getting caught between the blades and the plate and dragging the blade so required quite a bit of stopping and opening it up to remove the bits that had caught. The other wood I tried was bamboo. This time i didn't get any bits stuck on the blades, the problem I had with the bamboo though is it didnt shred the leaves and they got caught in the output shoot and it just built up and again I had to open it to clean it. The other negative I had was that the input area was great for branches but when you have a lot of smaller bits the opening wasn't large enough to take them.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The wasted weekend This is the worst item I have ever wasted money on it is so unbelievably poor I have had to invent new swearwords just to express my annoyance. I ordered the first 1 on may day bank holiday Monday 2018 and it was delivered. trying to assemble it the screw which holds one of the legs on cross threaded despite my utmost care. That ruined Saturday but Screwfix got a replacement to my local store so I had to waste time, from my precious and short weekend to go an get a replacement. The replacement had exactly the same fault and so my short (less than 48 hours) weekend was totally wasted trying to buy something worth having. Stop selling rubbish Screwfix you have lost my custom because you sell rubbish tools.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from A Waste Of Time I bought this to do some light garden shredding, It lasted 10 minutes of shredding branches less than half the stated capacity before cutting out. I reset and waited 20 minutes (the guide says 1 minute) before starting again. Nothing!! I took it back and accepted an exchange because I wanted to get the job done. This one lasted 15 minutes before emitting loads of smoke and cutting out. A waste of time assembling 2 machines with trips back and forth. THIS MACHINE IS NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE. I wish I'd read the reviews beforehand. The only plus I have is that Screwfix were excellent as regards exchanges and refund,

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Shredder This is a fantastic piece of kit for the price. Was an impulse buy after starting to cut hedge back in new house that hadn't been touched for years. Eats through small freshly cut through to larger branches with ease into nice small bits that can either be put on garden or more easily transported to the tip.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from branches, not leaves Bought this shredder to get rid of some small trees I'd chopped down. It's pretty good for fairly straight branches, but lacks the power to pull stuff through so you have to do a fair bit of manual cutting before you feed it in. Also, it doesn't like leaves much and tends to clog up fairly often if you're shredding the leafy stuff, so probably best to leave the branches till the leaves have died off. It says it will shred branches up to 45 mm, but I'd say 40 is pretty much the limits before it cuts out.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Item...Read my Review,,,, We have a pile of old dry bramble and shrubs, nothing big. So thought I would purchase this Titan shredder to chip it. Purchased via click and collect, paid, picked up and got home. I had read many reviews waxing lyrical about this product. We unpacked and put it together, just wheels and frame. We noticed that one of the nuts was poorly located. But shrugged our shoulders and got it to work...... Oh dear...5 mins later after putting test pieces of small dry brambles and shrubs there was dreadful smoke coming from the motor. It then wouldn’t switch off and I ran to the house to switch it off. Horrific. We then took it back to Screwfix who, to their credit refunded us without any issue. I purchased new loppers and secateurs from Screwfix, neither of which let me down during the day, in-fact, probably did the job so much quicker. So, if you want a decent shredder, then buy some decent loppers and secateurs for half the price,,,,steer clear of this product, although mine may have been a ‘Friday Night Job’.

Date published: 2018-05-05
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not very happy When I first started using the shredder, though it was very good, but then the problems started. I think that because of the design on the inside of the casing, twigs and leaves get trapped very easily and it blocks the outlet. If it was smooth and wider there wouldn't be a problem but now, my hands are sore from sticking my fingers up to unblock it. Would not be recommending to anyone. Not a happy cookie.

The Titan garden Shredder

I am interested to buy a titan garden shredder that I can shred tree barks to use in my pathway as landscaping bark chip as well as a bark mulch. Thank you.
Asked by: Luzvi
Hello Luzvi, The instructions for the Titan Electric Garden Shredder say that it is capable of cutting 'fibrous and woody garden waste' up to a maximum diameter of 45mm. So the bark should be fine as if its not in huge clumps. Thank you for using Q&A

How do I get it working again?

After putting only 4 branches through my new machine, it stopped and won't go back on again. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what the problem might be? Thanks.

Hi Gnd77, Unfortunately Screwfix is unable to offer usage advice other than that contained in the manufacturer’s instructions. There is a troubleshooting section in the Instruction Manual on Page 15. If this does not help fix the issue please bring the item back to your local trade counter with the receipt or call our customer service team for an exchange on Tel. 03330 112 112. After approximately how many hours of typical use would the blades need replacing?

Asked by: ShahaM
Hi ShahaM, This shredder is designed for cutting of fibrous and wooden garden waste for composting. It has an•80kg/hour Material Throughput and will shred branches up to 45mm Diameter. We do not have any information about how long the blades will last as this will depend on the amount, frequency and hardness of the material being fed through the shredder. Thank you for using Q&A. Can you make compost from the output of this?

Can you make compost from the output of this?
Asked by: Guestie
I think you'll confuse screw fix with the question here!! Yes, you can compost shredding - indeed they may well compost quicker. However what compost you get and how quickly it breaks down / how good the compost it makes is a function of the type of thing you've shredded, not the shredder!

Does the Titan Shredder have a collection box/bag of some sort.

Nothing shown on the pictures. Can a collection bag be fitted if none is supplied with the machine.
Asked by: qprdude
Not supplied with the machine. There's no fitting points, no any bag or box will just sit loose. A standard household storage crate will quite easily fit below the output channel - I actually used the crate provided by my local council for waste glass collections...

Anyone used this to shred backup tapes?

Strange question, I know.
Asked by: Dbro984
No. It's a rotating impact shredding blade - i.e. a disc with razor blades mounted in gaps. It works on solid material - tree branches, etc, and needs constant pressure applying to feed them through. If you tried to shred tapes they will just wrap around the disc and jam the whole thing up. You'll need a heavy duty office shredder for destroying storage tapes, which use rollers to grind the material up.
