Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great once setup... if you can Once setup these are pretty good. No hub, quick response, and they do what they should - give off light. Only gripe in use is that if you try and start them on low power (say 10% in the middle of the night), they startup bright before dimming after half a second. It’s not a big issue but worth mentioning. However... Setup is a complete nightmare. There are two modes, auto and manual. To enter auto, you turn the light on and off rapidly three times. To enter manual, you repeat the process... except, you don’t. To setup three bulbs I was clicking on and off for a full hour. I tried fast, I tried slow. I tried pausing and non-pausing. I tried every number of on/off combos of clicks from 1 to 30. The things drive you to distraction. I found it easy(ish) to get into auto mode, usually only 3-4 attempts. Auto didn’t work however. To then get into manual mode was the problem. Total pot luck, attempted it again and again. I suspect I power cycled the things over 200 times each. Once you get it into manual mode it connects to my phone/network flawlessly. But my god what a faff. I suspect I’m the only one in my family who would have had the patience. Everyone else would have binned them.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Dims ok but limited control Purchased for a table lamp in the lounge which I wanted to dim when watching the TV. The initial setup says to switch the lamp on/off/on 3 times. This was frustrating as it took many goes before it finally went into pairing mode. From then on it was straightforward to enter the details in the android app. Control of the lamp from the app works OK and it dims to a good low level with no flicker. Also it remembers the last brightness setting which I like. However I cannot get Alexa to see the device. I have followed the instructions several times, downloaded and enabled the skill but no joy. So only have control from my phone. Hence the 1 feature star. Cannot rate reliability as only just purchased and a lamp should last years. Note to Screwfix - This should be an optional rating.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value. I read all of the reviews across various cap fitting and almost didn't buy these bulbs/sockets as a result. Decided to see for myself in the end and really pleased that I did as I think for the price of them compared to some others they are excellent. The app is a straightforward download and register using an email address only. You then add the devices (bulbs, sockets etc) one by one. Once added you can tag them with locations (living room, kitchen etc) and name them (small lamp, big lamp, TV etc). The app allows you to easily switch each of the devices on or off and the bulbs are also dimmable! You can apply schedules (timer) to each and you can share access with anyone you choose. The devices are operable from inside your home and also remotely should you be away. Oh and the app is compatible with Google home app so you can link them and just use Google home app rather than the tcp app once set up if that's your preference. It says it's compatible with others too but I've not tried those. I've seen some other products that do similar but some of these require additional purchases to make some of these features possible. Point to note: some of the other reviews mentioned difficulty in set up. I experienced this too at first but upon investigation I realised that the devices are only compatible with 2.4gz WiFi and not 5ghz. This issue was quickly resolved by logging into my router (virgin) and disabling the 5ghz element. Having done so the devices connected easily. Final point to note, some reported not being able to get the bulbs to flash during set up. I set 5 bulbs up, most flashed themselves upon first install but the odd one didn't and was a little fiddly... I just followed the steps set out switching on/off/on/off and on again. Note you need to pause a few seconds after the final switching on to allow the bulb to start to blink. If it doesn't just follow the steps again. It could be a little easier if there was a switch on the bulb neck to press and hold for 5 secs as there is with the socket but not the end if the world and defo shouldn't put people off buying. Summary these are great and couldn't be easier to use once set up.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor set up Bought this light as it was on offer. Set up was terrible on this light: it took numerous attempts to set up, and even trying to reset it took far more attempts than the instructions indicated. After an hour or so, I finally got it to connect to the WiFi. Now it is connected, it seems to work very well with Google nest, and I can't complain about that. Next bulb I buy, though, will be a Philips. My overall rating is a two, because of the terrible set-up.
