Rated 2 out of 5 by from Long Term Review not so great. I have had Tado for 5 years since early 2015. As an early adopter I think people should understand a few things from my experience. 1. The product relies too much on a stable internet connection to work. The moment your internet connection fails or has issues, be prepared for heating and hot water problems. 2. The customer support was via telephone in the early days as the company was growing. Now they control heating in homes all over Europe, the customer support has moved to online via email. Be prepared for an issue to take hours or more likely days to resolve via email. 3. In five years I have had to have the internet bridge replaced due to it becoming faulty. This was so painful to get diagnosed and get a replacement as you cannot speak to anyone but rely on back and forth email where they send you useless tech articles and treat you like an idiot without asking the right questions. Their first line support people are not highly skilled enough and only escalate to developers when pushed. 4. I recently had the extension unit failure and the heating went to full blast at 4am. There was no support until the next day. I was awake till 5am trying to figure out why the boiler would not shutdown. 5, This product should only be used by the most technically minded. When things go wrong, most people will not have a clue how to fix it and be pulling their hair out while they have no heating or hot water. I am a computer technician. If I am not around, god help my family in trying to operate and figure out any issues. 6. Always have a backup in case the product fails. In my case I have retained the old mechanical timer unit so could switch it back myself. 7. All the heating and hot water schedules you set via the app are stored remotely in the Tado server and not on the unit in yout home. This is a terrible design and limitation. The moment you lose internet connection the product goes from Smart Heating to Dumb Heating. It basically knows nothing and goes dumb and cannot do anything for you. If the schedules were stored on the local unit in your home at least it could continue to operate until the internet connection returned. Overall a good idea but let down by design and support issues.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best on the market Other solutions over complicated things whereas the Tado offering provided me with the ability to control each and every room and a clean and simple product. Installation was really simple. The instructions were detailed and easy to follow. Oct 2018. I’ve installed a room thermostat in place of the existing heating one in the typical inside the front door coldest part of the house and as part of the kit that provides the Internet bridge. That zone is set always to 15 degrees and doesn’t need to be warm. An extension kit which controls the water, just clips onto the existing base most UK heating timers use. Super simple. Only issue I had is the bezel of the tado box is thicker so I had to move the base further out from the heating relay box. And lastly radiator valves, 13 of them. The various adapters for me were a poor fit, but reading earlier reviews I knew this was a likely weak spot. So I have opted to replace with new TRV valves without the heads so they are the correct size for the Tado valves. Some of the radiators were Drayton valves already and these fitted well and if you’re lucky enough to have these by default your install will be super simple. If you attempt to use the adapters (I suspect some will work better than others) they do work but on one or two radiators before I fitted the new TRV valves I wasn’t overly confident the thread was that strong. Once done and ignoring my decision to replace the valve bodies the system was setup and running within an hour. I’ve tested failures such as no internet. You can manually and locally override things via the thermostat to control hot water and heating but also on each radiator. I’ve not tested shutting the internet off to see if the schedule continues to run but will do in the near future. Whole lot has been running since October, rooms that don’t need heat are cold and the rest of the system heats up faster. The boiler has slowed down far faster first thing in the morning and has got every room that needs heat nice and toasty far faster thanks to excluding radiators and rooms which are not used in the morning. Well support on both Android and Apple iOS which for me placed Tado ahead of the competition. I have also put their AC unit in to control my office. If you have a member of the family who rarely uses their iPhone you will find the app stops reporting its location after a period of time. You just have to open the Tado app. When this happens tado defaults to you being away from home and if set to the heating shuts down. Leaving me with an angry call to say the heating has stopped working to which I respond open the tado app on your phone. This has happened twice and I suspect after 6 weeks without opening the app. This is an Apple feature as WhatsApp does the same.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Impressed I purchased Tado after speaking with their sales team and confirming how the set up would worth with my existing heating installation. I have an S Plus Plan Heating System - hot water and two central heating zones. I ordered the Smart Room Thermostat V3 Starter Kit with an additional Smart Room Thermostat for the second zone and an Extension Kit. As I wanted the greater control over my heating I also opted to purchase a Smart Radiator Thermostat for each room, totalling 17 thermostats. After reading Tado FAQ’s I opted to do the install myself. When first registered my devices I had to wait a couple of days for my custom installation instructions to come through, this took 2 working days as they advise. It took me no more than 10 minutes to remove and replace each of my old wired thermostats with the Tado room thermostats wired in place. The extension kit directly replaced my old controller using the existing backplate so this was even easier. I then set to installing the Smart Radiator Thermostats which again were really simple and took no more than 5 minutes each to install. Each device can have its own schedule and temperature set so that you have individual room control. They do come with preset schedules and temperatures so you’re adusting these to suit. Given the number of devices I installed this took a little time to do, though no more than an hour with a cup of coffee. I had a couple of minor teething issues with the setup which related to the configurations Tado has to do pre installation for the multi zone system I have. I liaised with Tado both via email and on the telephone and they were very responsive, the first issue they resolved whilst I was on the phone to them and the second within an hour of me speaking to them. While the system has only been in a couple of days, I am already really impressed. The system is easy to install and setup, my experience with customer support has been excellent and the minor issues resolve promptly.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don’t buy It’s practically impossible to install without waiting for Tado customer support confirming your configuration. Problem is they don’t respond so you’re basically stuck. Also, all control traffic seems to go through their servers so if they have problems you have no heat.

Is this V3+?

Is this the latest version?

3 channel (2CH & 1 HW)

I have a wired upstairs and downstairs tado wall stats. I also have tado radiator stats on all valves. My current programmer has each CH channel set to ‘on’. Can I replace my programmer with extension kit & configure so the CH zones stay on permanently?
Asked by: Malky1210
I answered my own question. Yes you can. You wore both upstairs and downstairs stat wires to perm live and then just wore hot water to the hot water terminal. But you need to get taco support to configure your extension kit to trigger for hot water only for it to work properly. ( I have an s plan system and was replacing a horstmann 37xl)
