Rated 1 out of 5 by from Has Flaw Purchased 3 locks for various jobs.. Managed to accidentally change the combinations on all 3 locks within a month rendering them useless. All had to be removed by an angle grinder. As more than one person had the accidental combo change, it could be a design flaw..

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Awful packaging. Please read.. So before buying this lock I saw the few good reviews. Collected it. Got it home. Tried to open it. I simply couldn't. Removed from packing and found a piece of moulding plastic that it sat on. In this is stamped 1081. Great. This must be it's exclusive release code. Tried it and still nothing. Then as others have said looked at the screwfix help q+a's. It gave the procedure to change the code etc but still I couldn't open the lock. It actually states no instructions supplied..... so.....I scrolled through all the reviews where I stumbled across one that said they took it back and a member of staff had had so many back they had looked into it and if there were instructions. As such they said there were instructions with it but it is not indicated. On the back of the packaging there is a small strip at the bottom of the rear sticky label. Puncture this with your finger and you'll find an even smaller piece of paper all folded up and stuffed into the packaging. Carefully pull it out and there are the instructions which are very easy to follow and the illusive release code for the lock. I won't post it here incase people haven't changed it. But why oh why do they emboss a 4 digit code into the moulding the lock comes in. Screwfix get this sorted ASAP. Most ridiculous packaging I have ever come across. As for the lock it seems robust. The dials turn easily. I doubt it's really that strong ( hammer and chisel should quickly undo it ) but for simply locking a cupboard or small shed etc I'd imagine it's absolutely fine. I haven't had chance to test it long term so only time will tell.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Rubbish Padlocks Bought 4 of these for outdoor use and every one has seized up within a few months. Looks robust & has a precison feel, but something in the mechanism eventually stiffens & seizes up on every one. Tried WD40 & exercise to no effect. Wouldn't buy this make again.

What is the factory code for this padlock?

Asked by: Helpme12
We couldn't get our lock opened and referred to this post for guidance. However, the default code wasn't 0000. The lock comes with a set of instructions 'hidden' in a compartment created by the shape of the lock holder (below the lock on the picture). There are two dotted lines on the back of the packaging that indicate a tear away strip. The lock's code is in those instructions.

How do you set combination on smith & locke 50mm padlock

Asked by: Trishb64
Hello Trishb64, This product is not supplied with instructions however 1.Pull up the shackle to unlock. 2.Rotate the shackle 90 degrees counterclockwise and press down. 3.Hold down and continue to turn the counterclockwise another 90 degrees. 4.Set your own combination by turning the dials. ... 5.Turn the shackle back as normal then the setting is complete. I hope this is useful Thank you for using Q and A.JB
