Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of time and money Bought after seeing 2 good reviews and assumed the 1 bad review was down to bad luck. First off, even a blind person could see that the alloy fence has a bow in it in the vertical plane so you have no straight datum to set a a 90 deg angle or any set angle for that matter. The plastic end caps on mine also protuded, preventing the workpiece passing thru when it hit the caps. Thus removed. Planing was smooth for a while until I started taking a few mill off a block of laminated 3 x 2 for a bench I'm building. After a few passes I checked with a square and saw that it had planed on a pronounced slant. Checked the knives. They were loose and slightly wonky relative to the cutter head. Set them straight and tightened up. Still cutting on a slant. Went to town with gauges. It's not obvious to the naked eye but the outfeed table is slighlty out of parallel to the cutter head so the knives have to be set wonky in the head in order to be parallel to the outfeed. The thicknesser planes wavy and isn't very accurate either. No amount of fettling and fiddling will sort this out. In sum as a planer it's only good for a couple of passes before your workpiece is well out of true. The thicknesser might suffice for doing lots of repetitive work if you can live with the wavy finsih or are prepared to finish your surface by hand with a smoothing plane or sander. Considering the added time wasted changing from planer to thicknesser I reckon I could do all my jobs quicker and better with my hand planes. I would have bought the cheaper Titan but it was out of stock. Even if that turned out as bad as this I would have wasted £150 less.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Wish I had not bought it Bought this after reading a few reviews and expected a few problems, opted for the one with the alloy fence being stronger. Checked all nuts, bolts etc were tight before use.Well still very dissapointed as when you set the fence to 90deg on the infeed table , it is way out on the outfeed !!!. The infeed table is also at a slant when moving it up and down. When lifting and lowering the thicknesser table bed, the action is so slack and then tight it feels as though the chain is going to snap, I'm really afraid to put force on to lift it, really cheap and chatty !!. Feeding timber in and the snipe on both ends is unacceptable and marks off the alloy infeed roller are evident and im feeding in at 0.5mm. Overall i wish i had seen this operate before I bought it as I would honestly run a mile, Im so dissapointed. Im wanting to take it back !!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product and good value When first received planer and set up checked it out whilst working through instructions. Done a few test runs and unfortunately the blade slipped so was not giving true cut however sorted this and has run brilliantly ever since. Dust extractor work fantastically when attached and very little waste is spilled. The only down side it is a bit fiddly to switch between the 2 functions once got the hang of it can do it easily with in a minute. I have processed some large section hardwood (even 200mm x 50mm walnut) with no problems at all a little snipe on thicknessing but just requires careful holding on entrance and exit. Couldn't recommend it higher as it's is a piece of kit at great price for the smaller workshop.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Scheppach planer thicknesser I took delivery of this machine on 18/11/14, set it up in the workshop, first disappointment, the plastic insert in the out feed side of the fence protruded further than the metal,so that the timber being planed would not pass through,I adjusted this, next problem, after three passes through the machine the timber began to jerk and jam, further inspection revealed that one of the blades had moved in the mounting spindle, two of the fixing screws were found to be loose. Luckily I had read all the instruction manual and reset and retightened all screws, tried the machine again and all seems to be o.k. now perhaps a little more quality control is required by the manufacturer

Knife bevel angles

What are the correct primary and secondary bevel angles for regrinding the knives? Should there be a back bevel? If so, what angle?
Asked by: piggybladder
Hello The planing knives are disposable with one bevel at 40 degrees , no back bevel , you can keep the original edge with a small diamond hand stone whilst in situ .

The drive belt for the knives overheats, even when taking off very little wood. Am I doing something wrong?

The machine is nearly new and I have already burned through one belt and come close to melting another.
