Rated 1 out of 5 by from Low quality, not for trade After good reviews, trade rated and good pricing I bought one of these, a Scheppach BGS700 grinder belt sander, for occasional use. After I collected it I unpacked with great expectations. There was no damage to any of the packaging so all should be ok?? It would not run when switched on. The belt was seized. As an engineer I had a good look and found the following: 1) With the protection cap on, the belt would seize as there was not enough clearance. 2) With the cap of it would run but the bottom belt wheel was wobbling badly and not running true. 3) It was impossible to "trim" the belt so it would run approximately centre on both wheels. To stop the belt running partly of the bottom wheel on the bottom right side, the belt had to scrape against the housing on the top wheel on the left hand side. The bottom wheel was not running true by a big margin. It would have "eaten" through belts at a high rate. 4) I then had a look on the stone grinding wheel. Also wobbled badly and was not running true. However credit to Scheppach they managed to get this in perfect harmony with the wobbling lower wheel of the sanding belt opposite so it would bounce off your work bench with vigour. Mounted on a piece of ply it would have been a perfect vibration plate. So off I went back to Screwfix to return it. They asked me if I wanted a replacement...... I declined. If a perfect packaged non damaged item has so many quality control issues with such big margins of error I would not want to know how many other hidden problems are there. My honest advice. Do not buy, save your money and precious time

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great linisher grinder Great bit of kit with a strong motor and sturdy appointments. Two things I would mention; I built an additional tool rest for the linisher as the stock placement of the tool rest limits the size of your work piece as the central casing for the motor is inline with anything longer you would want to work on. Secondly, changing the belts was a bit of a faff as the knob to loosen the belt was seized when it arrived.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from a bit flimsy the grinders ok, unfortunatley the belt sander is only supported with a pressed plare of sheet steel, it is now bending and the belt runs wonky and noisy, i dont know how much longer it will be possible to run the machine until the belt snags at the top left and bottom right.

would this machine be up to every day work?

I'm a knife maker and would be making around 20 bushcraft knifes a week, it seems to be the better machine for my task that Iv seen.

Hello The bgs 700 is a lightweight hobby / small workshop machine and not suitable for continuous work periods , annual use should not exceed 100 hours .

Is the linishing belt adjustable as in can I rotate the top to the bottom?

i.e: Is there a leaver that can be pulled out to swivel the belt wheels or the hole arm round?

Can the grinding wheel be removed and replaced for other wheels of the same size?

Hello You can change the grind wheel for one of exactly the same size specification , the card discs must not be removed from the center face of the disc as they are intended to add grip when tightening the outer flange , care MUST be taken when tightening , DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN as this can result in cracking the grind wheel .
