Rated 5 out of 5 by from like magic Used to dig two holes, 600mm deep, in rough ground full of roots and rubble - worked like magic and plus post hole digger saved a great deal of time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bit of kit Before I bought this I was going to buy a petrol version to dig a few dozen holes in heavy clay but fortunately hired one first and took it straight back as it wasn't up to the job. I then bought this....WOW!! The purpose of tools is to save you time and money and this fits the bill. I've now dug enough holes with it to highly recommend it, even if the price does look a bit steep. As others have pointed out you will save money on postcrete as it digs small holes. I found that in heavy ground you have to do a little bit at a time and then rock it back and forth before pulling it out. It'll go through medium sized roots, but you'll need a recip or similar for big ones. My only, very minor, gripe with it is that the two wing nuts on the handle are a bit flimsy and come loose a fair bit. If you want to dig post holes buy this!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of time This is the biggest load of rubbish I've ever bought, it struggles to even break the ground, absolute waste of time, I'm taking it straight back for a refund

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very effective Slices through London clay, easy through soil, but needs some help with bricks, flints, etc. But it is man enough for the job.

Digging holes

Would this tool be suitable for digging holes to accommodate my 100mm X 60mm concrete posts
Asked by: adbos1950
Good morning — adbos1950, Thank you for your question. This product is suitable for digging and scooping out a hole of 152mm diameter, you will need to put back enough soil to cover up the gap around after you put the post in. We also offer clapper style post hole diggers in our range, these would dig out smaller hole: SKU 35835 (135mm diameter) or 50215 (115mm diameter). To secure the post inside the hole we recommend using either fencing maul (SKU 2858X) or post rammer (SKU 52676), the letter's diameter is 150mm. We trust this helps.

Hi. How wide is the t-bar and does it detach or move? I need to dig some holes quite close to a fence.

Asked by: Balderovich
Good afternoon — Balderovich, Thank you for your question. The handle width is 50 cm and you can assemble/disassemble it from the shaft using bolts and nuts provided. The overall length of the digger is 108cm and the diameter of the hole scooped will be 15cm. There are also other (clapper style) diggers available from Roughneck brand that you can buy from Screwfix. Please view products 50215 & 35835. We trust this helps - kind regards.

What depth can be comfortably drilled/dug ? Also, sounds heavy at stated weight.

Asked by: micath
Good afternoon — micath, Thank you for your question. The Roughneck auger type post hole digger is used for digging and scooping out a hole of 152mm (6") in diameter. It has a hardened blade that will cut through most soils and clays and a long tubular T-handle for easy application. It is made from heavy gauge metal for extra strength. Overall length of the digger is 1080mm (42.5'') and the total net weight is 3.80kg. We trust this helps.

Asked by: PPete
