Rated 3 out of 5 by from Probable poor design I've used 4 of these on a hollow door. Used exactly correct screws following instructions. Only 1 will tighten. The other 3 don't become tight but do seem to hold OK so far. I have my doubts it will take prolonged strain. Looking online found no alternatives.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant - Just What I Needed We have a flat with hollow doors and I needed something to use to fix coat hooks to them. These appeared to have good feedback so took the plunge. The fact that they included a wood drill bit of the perfect size was a game changer - but you MUST use 3.5mm (No 6) screws with length that provides 25mm projection into the door. I used 30mm with a standard coat hook. The key is to very carefully drill the hole at a slow speed. Don't push the drill bit in and out as this will only cause the hole to enlarge due to the fragility of the door skin. Push the plug into the hole and lighly hammer the plug so it is seated properly. The next key to success is to use a 3.5mm screw of the right length and to carefully screw it in until you feel resistance and then a few quarter turns more until it feels secure. Have used these successfuly using this process many times. Happy days!

The plugs work because the tip is pulled towards the top of the plug causing it to expand in the door panel. The plug length is 24mm. The screw must be long enough to grip the tip of the plug after passing through the item that is being fixed to the door. A 30mm 3.5mm screw would be good for most hooks but extra length might be needed. 25mm long screws do not work, they are not long enough to grip the tip of the plug properly. Don't use 4mm wide screws as there is then a risk of snapping the plug into 2 bits. Plasplugs could do themselves a favour by explaining this on their packaging.
