Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for safety We couldn’t decide if we thought these were just an expensive gadget but they’re great and we feel very protected! They are easy to use and it’s great that they are both smoke and carbon monoxide detectors

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Illegal in Scotland from Feb Just found out these will not be legal in Scotland from 2021 as Nest do not offer a heat only detector for the kitchen and these cannot be linked to one. I have these and will have to throw them away. Do Not Buy. Why are Screwfix selling these?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Limited Shelf Life Purchased these a few weeks ago from screwfix. I had read some poor reviews on other sites to say they were suppling older stock so decided to stick with Screwfix who didn't look to be reporting any issues. Got them home to find the date of manufacture was over a year ago (these have a limited life of 10 years from manufacture) so have lost 1 years worth of use. Pretty rubbish given the high price and this info is only available on the unit itself once the box is open. Emailed customer services but no response back... Fitted anyway and they work really well. Integrate into the current Nest app, we have the thermostat and doorbell. Hard wired so no battery issues and the path light is a really useful feature. Installed in the hallway and landing so no more stumbling around in the dark. Just wish Screwfix customer service was as good as Nests products. Too early to comment on reliability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nest Protect Upgrade Purchased these to replace ones that were 10 years old. Read loads of reviews and these seemed to pop out as being very good. They look good, far better than the old ones and very easy to install. Setup was straightforward and 3 days in no problems. Like the way that they inform you all is ok, if there’s a problem etc. The app is very easy to navigate and gives you a certain reassurance when out of the home. Very happy to recommend to family and friends.

Does this use the same connector as the 1st Generation or will i need to rewire?

I currently have two 1st generation wired nest protect devices that are about to expire, can i simply swap out the old units? or will i need to change the connector and base plate?
Asked by: AlexG87
The 1st generation and 2nd generation wired Nest Protects still have the same wiring configuration but have different base plates and set up processes. We recommend removing the base plates from your old Nest Protects and replace them with the new base plates for the 2nd generation Nest Protects. You can follow the installation and set up guide here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9231672?hl=en

Which one or do both work with ALEXA... or not?

The Q&A say that the 2 versions are the same in every way... the Screwfix spec says that the battery version works with Alexa and the wired version does not.
Asked by: Luckyhedgehog
Unfortunately, both battery and wired versions of Nest Protect are not compatible with Alexa.

Does anyone know if Nest plan to address the fact that this does not meet UK Buildings Regulations. I believe the kitchen detector must be HEAT ONLY and NOT have smoke detection. All alarms must be linked. This is NOT an equipment safety issue.

Asked by: TMdiy
At this stage, this regulation is a proposal from the Scottish Government that is yet to be passed into law. As a result, it may be subject to some delays and changes between now and being made formal legislation. We recommend getting the guidance from your fire and local authorities.

Will I get the 10 year lifetime if I buy from screwfix?

Asked by: Kaney21
No. Nest Protects last 10 years from the date of manufacture. This will be printed on the bottom of the device, as well as programmed in. The app and device warn you as it gets near to expiry. There is no way to know how old a device is without opening the box.
