Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Video Doorbell Great video doorbell with some good features. I like the way you can view the doorbell live stream on your Google home hub and when the doorbell rings it shows you on there who is at the door and you can respond to them, if you don't want to open the door. It also has familiar face recognition. Motion detection is also good, as these days I have noticed with deliveries the doorbell is not always rung, but you can still be notified there is something happening outside. Good field of vision too.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Faff Don't expect this to work with your current, wired door bell. The Hello requires 16-24v AC (12v after an update) to operate. There aren't many (if any) wired door bells that provide 16v apart from those wired direct to your CU/Board to a bell transformer! I can only think that in the states, where's is designed they have 16-24v in every house. I don't know why they can't use 5v as this is what's provided from the USB connection in the back! I've now got to rip out my existing system, which only provides 5v and replace it with a transformer. bell, box and some sort of bell! If I could, I'd just send it back for refund and continue with my poxy DETA bell for £11 Why do these companies insist we go 'automated home' but then make the technology difficult to install?! I've got NEST smoke alarms and thermostats I found it tricky to install and even the sparky found it difficult as the thermos run off 12v rather than the 240v which is provided! How can anyone without tech know how install these? They get a dumb rip-off sparky come round and tell them they need a load of other things to get it to work!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Smart Doorbell I fit these for a living and have completed a few installs now of the Nest Doorbell. As previous reviewers have mentioned you will need a separate transformer to install it correctly. You can use a plug in transformer to supply power to the bell but i personally do not like this method. You can connect to a standard bell chime so when the bell is pushed it chimes inside (You can also have your Google assistant / smart speaker announce "someones at the door") as well as notifications to your phone / tablet. All in all a excellent product, if you're looking for install instructions simple go onto Youtube and search for "nest doorbell installation UK" and look for the one by The Computer Lab.

what wiring is required e.g. size of cable and is it powered off an existing lighting circuit for example?

Asked by: EmbraceDIY
Nest Hello works with most low voltage doorbell wires that are 14 to 30 V AC as measured by a multimeter, or with a transformer labeled from 16 to 24 V AC, 10VA or above (in North America) or 12 - 24 V AC and at least 8 VA (in Europe). A traditional doorbell system uses very little power, but Nest Hello has specific power requirements so the camera can continuously record video. Third party cables and AC adapters are not recommended or supported. Learn more about the power requirements for Nest Hello here:

In general, Nest products work almost anywhere if there’s a Wi-Fi signal. But, there are a few things to keep in mind if you’re trying to connect to certain type of Wi-Fi networks or routers. Mobile hotspots, guest networks, and other types of internet service are not recommended for use with Nest products. Nest products do not support Enterprise networks such as 802.1x/RADIUS or captive portal networks (networks that require you to agree to terms of service, such as a coffee shop or hotel). All Wi-Fi routers have a limit on the total number of devices that can be connected to Wi-Fi at the same time. Refer to your router’s manual for its limit. You may also check these links that might help: - Recommended Wi-Fi network and router settings: - Types of Wi-Fi networks that aren't recommended or won't work with Nest products: - Wi-Fi routers that are incompatible with Nest products:

Can I have the doorbell on my driveway gate ? Do I. Need a cat 5 back to router ? Or will It work ? Nearest router wifi is 100 Mtrs away at the house ?
Asked by: Alanbull
No, not really. We recommend placingNest Hello where your current doorbell is connected. Nest Hello connects to the internet through Wi-Fi. We recommend that the broadband internet connection has at least 2 Mbps of upload speed to connect Nest Hello to the internet. If you have additional inquiries you can reach out to our Google Nest help page:

Data security and storage

Are the images and voice/video recording data stored locally or on a Google server where the user has no control of it?
Asked by: HoneyJukes
Nest Hello Doorbell video is stored only in the cloud according to the number of days of storage that is associated with your active Nest Aware subscription. You can create, save, share, and view video clips and time-lapse in the Nest app. For more details on how your recorded videos are stored, you can check out this help article:
