Rated 3 out of 5 by from OK, but avoid for plastic pipe As others have mentioned here, when you get the valve, it tends to be seized open. You need to hold it in a vice and turn it until it gives and then work it a bit. If you don't do this before fitting, you won't be able to close it. I was OK with this, but was also using it with Speedfit plastic pipe with an insert. The pipe inserts is about 2mm shallower than other valves I have used, so the olive sits right on the end of the pipe. When tightened, the pipe still wobbles a bit, so I was concerned it would not hold the pipe securely. As this is a main water feed, best not risk it, so returned it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Product but ... Purchased a couple of these to isolate the CH ports on a Combi Boiler after experiencing a failure of the boilers own isolator valve on the flow side. Fitting was no problem but when I came to rotate the valve it didn't budge. Tried several screwdrivers but they just damaged the slot. Eventually placing the valve in a vice and using a 18" Screwdriver with the end reprofiled and a spanner to turn it, it finally moved. After that, they were fine and turned easily. Reinstalled them and they work fine. They have not been install for long so not able to fully assess performance and reliability.

Has this product been improved since reports of leaks?

This product has a number of reviewers reporting leaks forming shortly after use. The number of these suggests there is a design fault in the product. Has the manufacturer taken any steps to stop this from happening?
Asked by: Joel6474
Hello Joel6474, We aim for the product we still to be at the highest possible standard, so this item should not leak. However, for whatever reason this does occur the item can be returned to store with the receipt under warranty to get a refund or an exchange sorted. Thank you for using Q&A TC

Can i fit this valve directly to imperial 3/4 pipework or will i need to first fit 74038 adaptors each side?

Hello Surgeryman, Unfortunately Screwfix is unable to provide advice on installation advice, I would advise going directly to a suitable tradesperson for advice on the products you require. Thank you for using Q&A TC

What is the thread on the end of the fittings? Can a flexible pipe be screwed directly to the fitting?

Asked by: Hammer1962
Hi Hammer1962, I am advised that although this has 22mm metric compression fitting at each end, the thread on the compression nuts should be 3/4" BSP. and so a fitting with a 3/4" BSP female thread should fit in liieu of the compression nuts and olives. Thanks for using Screwfix Q&A. JT

How long is it?

I want to replace an old broken gate valve in a down feed from loft tank, so ideally it'll just slot into place, but that depends on how long it is I guess
Asked by: BaggyRick
Hello BaggyRick. The total length of valve including olives and nuts is 71mm. Thank you for using Q&A, [BH].
