Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid vibrations Good construction without the need to maintain the handle unlike wooden ones. The head is well constructed with a Gothic arch edge to the blade. Overall good grip with rubber handle, this could be thicker and further up the handle. More reverberation because of the handle material used but for the price more than reasonable.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Weak Handle " The handle snapped off at the head. Appears to be a weak point. I have probably used it no more than a dozen times. Not impressed one bit. I think that a traditional wooden handle would be much stronger. Its cheap but not designed to last. Would not buy again."

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Reasonable maul Bought this to replace my hickory handled maul. You have to give this maul a bit more welly than the wooden handled one due to the flex in the handle.

Can the rear side of the maul be used to strike a ROUGHNECK WOOD GRENADE LOG SPLITTER

Instead of using a sledgehammer.
Asked by: Animalmother90
Hello Animalmother90, Yes this should work as this is a handle maul, make sure you hit the splitter dead on. Thank you for using Q&A TC

Can this be used as a hammer to strike wedges or a wood grenade?

The splitting maul has a flat top head which I have seen used by tree professionals as a hammer to strike wedges when felling trees. Can this maul be used for this purpose? (as opposed to striking the maul itself, see Q+A above)
Asked by: PN10
No No No, not on this type. This is just a weight, this steel will not last hitting other steel, not to mention the rear of the axe is rubber coated and that will split first attempt. I've been using this axe all day and it splits everything which is not sodden first time, the really big stuff you might need a grenade and a sledge for.

Why does it say "do not strike" on the head piece. What happens if the axe is stuck in a log?

Asked by: Oddsox
Because the rear of the axe is not hardened steel and it will deform with a couple of strikes, possibly even crack. Not to mention it’s rubber coated steel on the after end and you’ll definitely split that protective rubber. There is no need to use a sledge on a splitting axe.
