The splitting maul has a flat top head which I have seen used by tree professionals as a hammer to strike wedges when felling trees. Can this maul be used for this purpose? (as opposed to striking the maul itself, see Q+A above)
No No No, not on this type. This is just a weight, this steel will not last hitting other steel, not to mention the rear of the axe is rubber coated and that will split first attempt. I've been using this axe all day and it splits everything which is not sodden first time, the really big stuff you might need a grenade and a sledge for.
