Rated 4 out of 5 by from 8/10 very strong fast to self cut and quick to drive in highly recommend
Date published: 2019-03-03
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not fit for purpose Wasnt able to drive into frame without drilling a pilot hole first so not sell drilling. The little tabs which are meant to break off before going into the frame didnt, making the hole too big resulting in the screw just coming away. Returned for a refund no problem.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from NOT 'Easy-Drive'! 'Bought these for fixing 6mm plywood sheets to (approx) 1-2mm steel cladding sheets, as i wanted a 'flush' finish in order to fit a very large canvass sign over the ply, which, according to the 'spec'. they should be perfect for? Wrong! Looking at the design of the screw, it would appear that the 'wings' located just inboard of the self-drill tip, are designed to cut a clearance hole in the timber, then snap-off as they hit the steel sheet, thereby allowing the screw to self-tap a thread into the steel sheet? However, in practice I found that in 99% of cases, the wings (which are around the same width as the screw thread) don't snap-off & therefore open-up the hole in the steel sheet, thereby causing the screw to then simply 'fall' into the resulting over-sized hole! In the majority of cases, I had to then fiddle-about pulling the screw back out of the hole (as it hadn't self-threaded, so couldn't simply be backed-out with the driver) then trying again on a fresh area nearby, whereupon, as in most cases at least one of the 2 wings had sheared-off in drilling the previous hole, the screw then worked as it should. However, in some cases the operation had to be repeated a 3rd time in order for the screw to actually 'bite'! Result - The job (up a very tall ladder!) took 2-3 times longer than it should have, the work-piece is now 'peppered' with masses of 'failed' fixing holes & my wrist was knackered by the end! Maybe they aren't designed for fixing 'thin' ply, but I certainly won't be using these ever again! Returned to branch for a full refund, which, of course Screwfix actioned without question.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Work very well Using them to attach 40mm timbers to 3mm steel tough work and they cut hole fine and self tap rock solid tight.
Date published: 2015-12-25
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Self drilling screw Does what it says on the box would highly recommend these screws.
Date published: 2015-11-21
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Art Studio I used these to fix 9mm ply to the 3mm thick 40mm steel angle frame on the inside of my painting hut. Set your drill drive to a slow speed, apply gradual pressure and once these screws bite they pull themselves through and the fixing is solid. A brilliant product, just the job.
Date published: 2015-11-21
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not fit for purpose These screws wouldn't drill through a 6mm mild steel angle. Fortunately I was able to find a few branded tek screws in the bottom of my box to save the day.
Date published: 2015-11-21
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy Peasy Screwing plywood to steel box section has never been easier !!!!!

Are these good for fixing plastic to metal work

wanting to fix some plastic arches to the metal body of a car. Are these suitable?
Asked by: AndyS87
Hello AndyS87, The screws are capable of penetrating 5mm of light steel so may go through the metal work, however this is not their intended use so we cannot comment on suitability. Thank you for using Q and A, EC.

Length of screw thread

Hi, the length quoted for these self-drilling screws (eg 65mm) ~ is that the total length of the whole screw including the "drilling head", or is it the length of the screw thread? Thanks....
Asked by: Cognis
Hello Cognis, The given length for each screw is the overall length. The length of the thread for this screw is approximately 30mm. Thank you for using Q&A.

I want to fix 18mm thick marine ply to metal beams.

Asked by: prba

Are 2688H suitable to drill through 10mm plaster and into a metal lintel above a window in order to fix brackets to hold a window blind up?

The steel lintel is in a bungalow so should not be too thick, I hope!
Asked by: Biggles1
Sorry, I doubt they are. I recently needed to screw into a steel lintel to affix a blind (I also know this wasn't thick because I installed it). To do this ruined several of my mid range metal drill bits and took some sweat!
