Yes, as far as we are aware, the Type A is a better design and plumbers prefer them.
Type A has a gland to prevent water from running down the threads and out when you open the valve, whereas Type B does not have this gland. When you open a Type B to drain a central heating system, a lot of water runs down the threads and onto the floor instead of going down the drain hose.
