Rated 2 out of 5 by from Incorrect markings Not a bad price for this 230/230v isolation transformer. Label on it incorrectly says it's a 3kva centre tap outputting 110v. I bought a 1.5kva outputting 230v and indeed it does output 250v. Poor quality control though as what happens if somebody use it for a 110v tool. My best guess is the blue cased ones are 230v output whereas the yellow are 110v site.....but who knows?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad quality control in place I purchased the product on line and collected it from Screwfix store. Before plugin it in, I took the top cover off, and did basic continuity and insulation tests. The satisfactory tests allowed me to make sure it is isolation transformer (i.e. it completely separates mains input line and neutral, from transformer output line and neutral). The problem is that the resin used to insulate the transformer inside the box, leaked through one of the output sockets making it unable to plug anything. The question I asked the Carroll&Meynell customers service was HOW they could do final product quality and safety test, if there was no possibility to plug anything into the tested socket. I was told that in final production stage, they first test the transformer and sockets, and then if the test is satisfactory, they put resin inside the transformer box, without further inspection and tests. I think the missing point from their final product quality inspection and test procedure is that if the resin leaks through output sockets (as it was in this case) they do not have any further inspection or test to eliminate this possibility. I am currently waiting for the replacement from Screwfix.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very questionable quality Since the last review, I would have hoped that screwfix would have taken action, but sadly not. The label is still there but there are other issues too. The point is that one label states this is and auto transformer and another label states it is an isolation transformer. It can't be both, so which is it ?. Well I carried out my own tests and it is an isolation transformer. But in order to claim full CE compliance as a class 1 product all metal parts protruding into the case must be earthed. The socket mounting screws are not earthed and they should be. This is very poor practice. Should a live wire come loose inside it could touch a screw with very unpleasant consequences. I will be modifying my transformer so that it does comply with regulations

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Slightly disappointing I bought this as an isolation transformer, which it is. However it carries a warning label on the top which states that "This AUTOTRANSFOMER must be earthed." It does not say how, and there is no external Earth connection. The input earth connection is carried through to output with the possibility of disconnecting this inside the transformer housing. One fastening bolt on the top was loose. Further investigation showed the lid's waterproofing gasket was badly fitted with gaps. Definitely IP20, but would not comply with IP44 as supplied. Probably OK if kept upright, although with normal 13A sockets (2 not 1 as in the description) I would personally be cautious about unsheltered outdoor use. I am sure it will do the job I want it to do, indoors. Reliability estimated as it has only just arrived.
