This range extender works as a transceiver, receiving an incoming Wi-Fi signal (of at least 50% strength), processing it to add power, then re-transmitting it to an extended range compared to the original router signal.
So _no_ it will not work when placed in the dead spot you are tying to improve the signal to, it should be part way between the router and the dead spot where the signal is adequate so that it can extend this signal into the problem area.
