Rated 1 out of 5 by from Snapped in half! I was pleased with this at first, however the combs kept slipping out, after the third comb I noticed that the chisel was wearing down were the combs fit into the chisel, yesterday the chisel snapped, I was working on reasonably soft sandstone..

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good product Purchased this tool with spare combs for 60 year hard render. Well made and does exactly what it's supposed to do. Does come with a heat warning so only use for 10-15 mins at a time, so don't overheat it or it may fail. It hasn't so far so very happy with purchase. Works a lot better than a SDS chisel.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good while you can use it. Bought this having a lot of back boxes to knock in. Not cheap but thought if it saves me the time it's worth it. Knocked the first box in, really easy and quick, it cut the brick very well. Went to remove the chisel from the drill to get a drill bit in and it was stuck in solid. Thought it was a problem with the drill chuck at first but it turned out it was the chisel. A long time and a lot of effort to remove with vice grips and a hammer and it finally came out. Found the shank on the drill that fits into the chuck had swollen. You couldn't see it to the eye but measuring it and the fact it wouldn't go back in the chuck proved it. Screwfix took it back and refunded it no quibble. Couldn't risk another, worst case it could crack the drill chuck. Shame as it's very good at what it's intended for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Armeg Scutch Chisel The best tool for removing old plaster from brick work ever. We are now on our second one. The comb design is brilliant, it goes through old plaster and cement render like butter, and we only used it in a 3kg cordless SDS drill. A superior design than any other plaster removing tool I have seen. A replaceable blade makes this very cost efficient. Yes, there are a few negative reviews about the shank breaking and getting too hot. It generally gets too hot after about 20 minutes of constant use and then needs another 20 minutes to cool down. The heat is probably because you've just removed the same plaster in 20 minutes it would've took 2 hours to do by hand. It never broke for us. After 20 minutes the drill needed to cool down anyway and an excuse for a cuppa is always a good thing. We are on our second one, after totally chipping off an entire house back to brick, as eventually the head of the tool doesn't hold the replaceable comb as tightly. Our new replacement is very slightly different and seems to hold the replaceable comb tighter than the first one ever did. In any case, for us this was acceptable wear and tear.

Is this any good for removing tile adhesive off concrete floors?

Big job ahead. I've to remove tiles from hall and kitchen concrete floors. Looking for something to make removing the tile adhesive a little bit easier. Thanks!

Hi, the scutch chisel would indeed be useful for removing tile adhesive but it may be worth considering this This chisel has a cranked head making it perfect for removing tiles and the adhesive. You may need to keep the edge sharp by grinding or filing. Also take note of the usage instructions supplied with the chisel to minimise the chances of shank breakage.

Does it come with any combs?

Asked by: wilba
The Armeg SDS scutch comb holder comes with one 40mm wide scutch comb. This needs assembling into the chisel prior to use which is done by tapping into place centrally in the slot on the end
