Rated 5 out of 5 by from Foam underlay Acoustalay Perfect for the job, but why it has to be orange and not brown or black? Easy to handle and it gave a good cushioning to the floor.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent for luxury vinyl flo After reading another review of this product on screwfix's website I was a bit hesitant in purchasing.... turns out it could simply not be any better for LVT click flooring systems. On the packaging of this underlay it specially says it is designed for Luxury vinyl. It's designed for heavy loading and joint protection... which is absolutely necessary as the downside to luxury vinyl are its weaker joints. Its ridiculously easy to cut and fit, I've just fitted 30sqm of the stuff and had to write a review as I feel it has been unfairly discriminated against!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Warning - Don't use for LVT We bought this rather attractive orange underlay to use with our LVT flooring. Unfortunately having stuck it in place we discovered it isn't suitable for Vinyl Click Flooring despite Screwfix's website and the packaging stating it is. Acoustalay's website doesn't mention LVT either. Our fitters checked the tiles on other underlay and they are fine. If you are looking for LVT underlay then look elsewhere, unfortunately it is too late for us and we will be living with an orange floor for the next few weeks.

Suitable for engineered wood flooring?

Hi, is this suitable to go under engineered wood flooring? I have underfloor heating subfloor. thanks
Asked by: JujujujuJuJUJUJUJU
Acoustalay Foam Underlay & Vapour Barrier 2mm (43968) is designed for use under engineered wood flooring. It also has a low level of thermal insulation (0.052m2 K/W) which gives flexibility for use with subfloor embedded underfloor heating systems. As a general guide the combined insulation offered by the underlay and flooring should not exceed 0.15m2 K/W. You should always check the guidance provided by the flooring and under-floor heating system manufacturers.

What type of joining tape is needed for overlaps or large areas

Asked by: Bevved
Where Acoustalay Foam Underlay & Vapour Barrier (43968) is to be used as a vapour barrier, then the first row should be laid with a minimum of 20mm up the walls. Butt the next row edge tightly to the first, ensuring that they do not overlap. Carefully tape the joints using a waterproof tape. All rows, including the last, should also be laid with a minimum of 20mm up the wall which will typically be concealed behind the new or re-fitted skirting, scotia/trim once the floor is laid. Waterproof joining tape can also be used to seal small tears. To assist laying over a large area you may find the application of double-sided tape to the perimeter of the sub-floor helpful.

Is this suitable to use in a conservatory or room with high temperature variation?

Asked by: Danimc
Acoustalay Foam Underlay & Vapour Barrier 2mm 10m2 (43968) has a very broad operating temperature range of between -50⁰C and +100⁰C. Typically the limiting factor regarding temperature tolerance would come from the flooring, which will also need to accommodate the maximum and minimum temperatures you expect in the space so please ensure you follow the guidelines provided by the flooring manufacturer. Should the moisture level in the sub-floor of the conservatory, or room in question, require a vapour barrier the joints between the rows of Acoustalay (43968) should be sealed with a waterproof joint sealing tape as per the installation guidelines provided with the product. For areas where the sub-floor moisture level is >4% a separate damp proof membrane (DPM) should be used.

Suitable

Can I put this on top of electric flooring mats
Asked by: Winniegilbert123
Acoustalay Foam Underlay & Vapour Barrier 2mm (43968) would typically be laid between the sub-floor and a surface (ribbon or wire type electric heating mats). There is will provide spot levelling - compensating for small protruding particles found on the smoothest of floors and an insulating layer against heat loss through the sub-floor. It will also not offer an impediment to heat travelling upwards into the room. If your heating system calls for an insulating layer to be laid on top of electric heating mats Acoustalay (43968) offers a very low level of thermal insulation so would provide less impediment to heat travelling upwards into the room than other underlays but please ensure you follow the guidelines provided by the electric heating mat and flooring manufacturers to ensure the system functions as intended.
