Acoustalay Adhesive Backed Foam Underlay 3mm 10m² (62317)

10m² roll of 3mm self-adhesive, high quality, cross-linked polyolefin foam underlay ideally suited to domestic applications with typical installations including bedrooms, spare rooms and living rooms. Enables flooring to be bonded directly to the underlay. Self-adhesive backing, protected by a release liner prior to installation, significantly reduces installation time, while Acoustalay provides for perfect spot levelling. Suitable for use with sub-floor embedded underfloor heating (operating temperature -50 to 100°C). Always read and follow the guidelines supplied with the underfloor heating system and/or floor to be fitted. Acoustalay should be used as an insulating/spot levelling layer between the floor to be laid and the sub-floor. If laid on a concrete sub-floor a separate vapour barrier should be used.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not for me anymore I have used this previously a few years ago, either it is more flimsy or I am more clumsy, after several attempts I gave up & reverted to glue, also from screwfix which I should have used in the 1st place. such is life, overcome & solve the puzzles!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Plan, plan and plan again As the title suggests plan, plan and plan everything before you start. Laying out is easy enough, ensuring you have enough excess at the start (approximately 3 board widths) to peel back and cut off the redundant underlay. If your rolls are anything like mine they are not going to lay flat however do not do what I did and staple down to the wooden subfloor as when you come to pull out the peel back plastic it tears at the staple and gives you all sorts of nightmares. Suggest double sided tape instead and do not overlap. If your boards are thin and those annoying multi length ones at that, get someone to help you with the first row, my advice would be to lay 2 full rows (hence why 3 board widths of excess underlay) before you start to pull out the peel back plastic. The second person is to stop the floor boards twisting. After that it is an absolute doddle and I had a 25m2 room done on my own in no time (would have taken less time with fixed length boards). Once the boards have settled after a few months it really is effective stuff with quiet footfalls and boards that are not going anywhere. Don't delay, buy today. Oh and at the time I bought it Screwfix was the cheapest anywhere, fact.

Can this be used under carpet tiles?

Does anyone know if this can be used under carpet tiles to provide a sound proofing layer?

Acoustalay Adhesive Backed Foam Underlay 3mm (62317) is intended for use with rigid flooring (laminate, engineered and solid wood), not carpet tiles. Please check with the carpet tile manufacturer to establish if this underlay would be suitable for use with their product. The foam may offer a degree of sound insulation but has not been tested for this application.

Is this suitable for glued down 2mm laminate vinyl flooring?

Product to be used with Karndean Knight Tile KP38, it is NOT a click connect flooring.

Do you still need to glue the header joints

Just wanted to know if this holds all joints together on a click real wood floor or would i need to still use glue on the shorter (header) joints as i do not think this is recommended by the manufacturer Thanks

You can add a couple of spots of glue to the board ends for 'engineered floors only' if desired. Do not add glue to board ends on real solid wood flooring.

Is a vapour barrier needed on new concrete floor?

I wish to use this on a new concrete floor that has a damp proof membrane. Is an additional vapour barrier still required between the screed and the underlay?

Hello Leo, Acoustlay 250 SAB is not a vapour barrier - so will require a seperate 125mu polysheet or similar 'Vapour barrier' to be laid first.
