Hot Work and Safety Compliance - What you need to know
Welding, soldering, brazing, grinding, and drilling all pose fire risks – especially in areas containing flammable or combustible materials. Dry timber, wood debris, adhesives, insulating materials and soft furnishings are just some of the things that can so easily ignite.
Working with ignition sources near flammable materials is called “Hot Work.” If you’re undertaking Hot Work, you need to plan ahead and understand how to minimise the risk of fire. Ask yourself:
- Do you have the correct firefighting equipment for your working area?

- Have you cleared the area of combustible materials?
