Rated 5 out of 5 by from Projects. Needed a paint for several household projects and this saved me from buying several different products. Used to revamp an old wooden cabinet, cover over previously painted stair rails and had enough left to paint the bathroom ceiling. Not cheap, but coverage was good. Recommended.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Rubbish 3 coats on white pre primed doors and still prolly needs another 3 to fully cover,it took 7 coats plus a coat of dulux oil based undercoat to cover light oak stained skirtings, how people are saying 2 coats and the jobs finished is beyond me

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not happy Just tried to use this in our spare room and as I'm rollering it on the wall if I go over the same bit it comes off the wall. The paint I'm trying to cover is only a pale yellow satin emulsion so I can't see a problem there. After all the hype about this stuff, what a waste of money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant Restored my faith in water based paints. Sounds expensive but coverage is excellent. Used it on 5 doors. Three coats on ten sides used about 2 litres. Oddly I got a better finish with the door hanging than removed and on trestles. My observation was thin coats applied and tipped off quickly worked well.Don't worry too much about the brush marks as they disappear as it dries.

Is this suitable for painting interior doors?

I want to paint dark brown flush internal doors white. Can I use this paint directly on the doors to cover the brown or is a primer needed first? Thanks
Asked by: TFoin
Hello, thank you for your enquiry. Usually this type of surface is manufactured using a laminate, due to a door being a high wear area and laminate being a difficult surface to get a paint to key to our best recommendations are to apply a primer such as the Zinsser B-I-N Primer first, ( 29961) this will help to achieve a better key, to resist peeling and flaking. For best results clean the surface well ( we recommend with hot water and liquid detergent, rinse with warm water to remove any soap, then when dry a final wipe with methylated spirit) prior to applying the B-I-N Primer with a brush or roller, the B-I-N Primer can be over coated with the Zinsser Self Priming Paint after a minimum of 45 minutes, allowing to complete your project in record time. We trust this information helps

is this product suitable to use on new wood with out any primer or undercoat? will the knots show through?

Asked by: HiFi9
Hi, thank you for your enquiry. For optimum results we would recommend priming new bare wood that has knots with the Zinsser B-I-N primer (29661) to seal the knots and any tannin bleed from spoiling the decorative finish. Our best recommendations are to remove excess resin from the knots with a hot air stripper followed by wiping with methylated spirit, spot prime the knots with B-I-N Primer, allow the B-I-N to dry for minimum of 45 minutes before applying a full coat of B-I-N Primer, again allowing a minimum of 45 minutes before applying the Zinsser Self Priming Paint Satin Finish in 2 coats, allowing a minimum of 2 hours between coats. We trust this information is helpful

Is Zinseer self priming paint suitable for wooden fire surrounds?

The fire surround is around an inset gas fire. Will the paint discolour?
Asked by: Nightman1
Hi Nightman1. Thank you for your recent enquiry. Perma-White can be applied to surfaces where the temperature achieved is warm enough to touch with your hand or is no more than the temperature what is produced by a radiator for example. 2 coats of Perma-White are recommended. The first coat will prime and seal the surface and the second coat will seal the system and provide a durable, long lasting, non-yellowing finish. Always ensure that the surface has prepared sufficiently i.e., with hot soapy water then rinsed with fresh warm water to remove detergent and when dry a good wipe with methylated spirit. Hope this helps.

Can I use this on beech veneered mdf, untreated

Asked by: Leocol
Hi Leocol. Thank you for your enquiry. Veneered surfaces are quite a difficult surface to get a good key to. Whilst Perma-White is self priming we would encourage you to apply a coat of Zinsser B-I-N (1 litre= 29661, 2.5 litre = 10130 or 5 litre = 3298G) as this will provide the ultimate key. Always ensure that the surface has prepared sufficiently i.e., with hot soapy water then rinsed with fresh warm water to remove detergent and when dry a good wipe with methylated spirit. Apply 1 coat of B-I-N and after a minimum of 45 minutes apply the Perma-White. 2 coats of Perma-White are recommended for a long lasting, non-yellowing finish. This, like B-I-N, can be applied by either a brush or roller but requires a minimum of 1 hour between coats. Hope this helps.

Can I use on radiators ?

what should I use for finishing coat on rads .
Asked by: 247handyman
Hi. Thank you for your recent enquiry. Zinsser Perma-White is suitable paint system to be applied to radiators. It is a finisher in it's own right so there would be no benefit of in using it as a basecoat prior to over painting with your own decorative finish as over coating would result in the loss of the mould & mildew resistant properties. 2 coats are recommended to providing a durable, cleanable, long lasting decorative finish that stays white, does not yellow and can be over coated after a minimum of 2 hours. Hope this helps.
