Rated 5 out of 5 by from Always use as a base This product is great for sealing knots. Having moved into a property that was only 15 years old, it was quite clear that the builders hadn't used any products on the new wood - there were unsightly brown marks coming through. A coat of this disguises that completely. Only downside is that it dries incredibly quickly so don't attempt to go back over an area you have just done, leave it a bit longer then retouch if you need to. A tad expensive, but a can goes a long way.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pricey but saves time and mess Stuck well to varnished wood although it dries very quickly so I had to work fast.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic What a fantastic product this is. I hate painting wood and metal but this stuff is so simple to use and It dries so quickly. Used for painting over Walnut stained varnished wood, 3 coats and its done. 2 thin coats over knots and they no longer come through, even knot sealer didn't work. The speed of this stuff drying is amazing, it takes some getting used too, but as a time saver, ie no sanding/dust etc its a life saver. Firm fan here, probably never use anything else as a primer, to steal a phrase, it does exactly what it says on the tin!

Painting over acrylic paint

My garage door is painted with an acrylic (I think) paint. I want to paint over it with a white paint topcoat. Will the Zinsser 123 seal/prime the acrylic paint to enable me to then apply a topcoat?
Asked by: GMF23
Hi. Thank you for your enquiry. Our best recommendation for this would be the Bullseye 1-2-3 (1 litre = 10135 or 2.5 litre = 10136) as this can be used on exterior surfaces and will stick to a previously painted surface including acrylic. 1 or 2 coats are recommended, to be applied by brush or roller at a coverage rate of approx. 10m²/L/coat. Always ensure that the surface has been prepared sufficiently i.e., with hot soapy water then rinsed with fresh warm water to remove detergent. Once the Bullseye 1-2-3 has dried (minimum of 1 hour) you can coat it with your chosen top coat, oil or water based. hope this helps.

Can I use this on laminate as a base for wallpaper?

Asked by: DustyR
Hi. Thank you for your enquiry. The Zinsser B-I-N will certainly stick to the laminated surface. We would always advise that the surface has been prepared sufficiently i.e., with hot soapy water then rinsed with fresh warm water to remove detergent and when dry a good wipe with methylated spirit before the B-I-N is applied. Whilst B-I-N can be wallpapered over (once completely dry (minimum of 45 minutes)), applying a vinyl wallpaper to vinyl surface (laminate) may prove to be a little more tricky. We would therefore advise a test area is carried out as in some cases a lining paper is required. Additionally we have found that ready mixed pastes provide better results too. I hope this information helps you with your project.

Can you use a gloss roller to apply this paint?

Asked by: TMHACE
Hi. Thanks for your enquiry. B-I-N can be applied using a natural or synthetic brush or roller (nylon, polyester or blend). For cleaning tools we recommend using methylated spirit. An alternative would be to use less expensive roller sleeves or brushes that you don't mind disposing of once you have finished applying the B-I-N. I hope this helps.

Cracked Walls

Walls showing signs of crazing as previous wallpaper paste may not have been removed properly. Can I prime straight over the crackled paint with either b-I-n or 123 before applying emulsion?
Asked by: Tandum55
Hi, Thank you for your enquiry. The best product from our range to help resolve this issue is the Zinsser Peelstop - (Screwfix Code 9371P). Our best recommendations are to remove any paint that is loose or flaking back to a firm feathered edge, apply a coat of Peelstop to bridge the hairline cracks, seal down any edges and provide a sealed surface ready to apply your emulsion paint to. For best results apply the Peelstop with a natural bristle brush - working into the surface, apply 1 or 2 coats allowing a minimum of 2 hours between coats or before applying your emulsion. We trust this information is helpful,

Is this the best thing to use before white glossing a previously stained staircase spindles and banister?

Asked by: Handymanprescot
Hi. Thank you for your enquiry B-I-N would be the perfect for this particular project. It has unparalleled adhesion to any surface providing great key without having to scuff sand. 1 or 2 coats of B-I-N primer is recommended, to be applied by brush or roller at a coverage rate of approx. 10m²/L/coat. Always ensure that the surface has prepared sufficiently i.e., with hot soapy water then rinsed with fresh warm water to remove detergent and when dry a good wipe with methylated spirit. Once the B-I-N Primer has dried (minimum of 45 minutes) you can overcoat it with your chosen decorative topcoat, oil based or water based. Zinsser Perma-White Interior (Satin - 1 litre = 13040 or 2.5 litres = 62096) would be a suitable finishing coat. 2 coats are recommended to providing a durable, cleanable, long lasting decorative finish that stays white, does not yellow and can be over coated after a minimum of 2 hours. Hope this helps.
