Rated 5 out of 5 by from BETTER THAN FIBERBOARD always used fibreboard when installing laminate but after reading the reviews i nervously gave this a go .. when i collected it i couldn't believe how light it was compare to the fibreboards, this made me even more nervous about using it,although i needn't of worried, it cuts like a dream (no mess) and after installation i was pleasantly surprised how this sound proofed the room and gave the floor a nice soft feel on the foot.. will always use this in future and screwfix was the cheapest price available .. 5 star product

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Top notch I've recently used two packs to lay laminate flooring and i have to say it's much easier to work with than rolled underlay/fibreboard. The sheets are some sort of foam material meaning they're light and very easy to cut. I did find they show indentations very easily so it's worth taking care until the laminate is laid on top. Overall very good and i'd buy more in future! I'd also like to know what the thermal resistance is, because 'Excellent Thermal Insulation' isn't really much help when comparing to other products.

Do I need hardboards

I am about to lay laminate flooring over floorboards. Do I need to use hardboards as the first layer and then VITREX PREMIER WOOD & LAMINATE UNDERLAY?

The floordboards are quite uneven in few places.

Answer:
I tend not to screw them down and leave them as a floating floor.

The weight of the floor and laying them in a brick pattern will keep them in place

If you do need to fix down would maybe use a no more nails type stuff ..but never needed to do that .

Is it damp resistant?

If laying on a concrete floor, do I need to use a damp proof membrane underneath the underlay, or is the underlay alone sufficient?

Answer:
I've recently fitted lamiate using this underlay, taping the joins. The reason for taping it is to ensure they stay in place when fitting and avoid any moisture transfer for the floor underneath. Any moisture resistant tape will do the trick, avoid things like masking tape etc.
